Just a heads-up: reservations are a must, as the place is always buzzing and tables fill up fast on Friday nights.

We began our culinary journey with two standout starters. The Antipasto Rustico was a beautifully composed platter featuring a selection of cold cuts, including crudo, prosciutto, pecorino, and parmigiano, complemented by olives and hearty beans. Every ingredient shone with quality and freshness, setting a high bar for the courses to follow. Next up was the Polpo Arrosto con Purea di Ceci Rosa di Reggello e Gnocchi di Patate – tender roasted octopus paired with a lovely puree from and homemade potato gnocchi. This dish was a revelation, balancing the smoky flavors of the octopus with the creamy, subtly sweet puree and light, pillowy gnocchi.

For the Primi Piatti, we were treated to a trio of masterpieces:

Gnudi Toscani bianchi e burro di salvia con crema di spinaci: Delicate gnudi dressed in a white sauce enriched with sage butter and the gnudi itself bursting with spinach flavour – an absolute dream.
Fettuccine con gamberi e crema di burrata: Fresh fettuccine tossed with succulent shrimp and a rich burrata cream, creating a vibrant mix of textures and flavors.
Tortelli ripieni di castagne e tartufo nero Périgord (3g): These tortelli, stuffed with chestnut and accented by the indulgence of Périgord black truffle, were a real treat for the senses. An absolute masterpiece!

The Secondi Piatti continued to impress:

The Tagliata di manzo con patate arrosto featured perfectly sliced beef with a wonderful char and tenderness, paired with crispy, savory roasted potatoes.
The Guancia di manzo brasata al vino rosso con polenta cacio e pepe offered melt-in-your-mouth braised beef cheek in a rich red wine sauce, complemented by a comforting polenta accented in the style of cacio e pepe. Each dish was executed with precision and a genuine passion for authentic Tuscan flavors.
To round off our meal, we indulged in a trio of desserts – an affogato, tiramisu, and mango sorbet – each one a delightful finale to an already stellar experience.

Cute restaurant, friendly employees. Comfortable, good lighting, feels good. Food was very good for the most part, especially the beef Tartare with bone marrow and the Ile Flottant as dessert. .

Dull food and bad service. The only thing that tasted good was the bread.
We booked two weeks in advance and noted it was a special occasion. The staff didn’t even a knowledge that and on arrival offered us the worst possible table choice either by the door or in the walkway. We refused both and managed to get an ok one.
Then when the drinks arrived turned out an Italian place can’t handle an Aperol spritz. Was watery and missing Prosecco. Had to ask to remake and the staff were very grumpy about it. The new ones tasted no better but we decided to leave it there.
We were hoping the food would compensate for all that given the impressive ratings and reviews. But no. It was pretty bad. Rubbery dry octopus accompanied by badly fried potato dumplings. Mediocre burrata dish. The mains were a disappointment too: the meat ravioli okayish. But I don’t recommend to anyone the spinach and ricotta gnadi. So bland, lacking texture and drenched in cheap butter.

Mixed feelings
- Service vas great and pretty quick, for only one waitress to be present. Her professionalism and warm touch on every interaction warmed our hearts. Overall mood of the establishment was very demure and intimate.

The food itself was the point where something happened. Sourdough bread starters were on point. Then arrived the beef tartares with gratinated marrow. We tried many ways to combine both elements, that sadly were too tasteless with smell resembling a dogs bone on hot summer day. This really saddened us, who have never left any food on our plates and used bone marrow often in our own cookings.
We got our plates taken away to the kitchen, but nothing more than ’you didn’t like it’ was asked or said. Only after leaving the restaurant we noticed the absence of the dish on receipt.
Ravioli with meat sauce and the truffel tagliolini saved the day for us hungry finns, but still left us hoping for some more.
Got a smile and a wave from Josef himself as we left.

Maybe the dish is kind of a gamble sometimes, but what do we know.

Want to feel like you stepped into Italy?  Then dine at Terrae while in Vienna.  This cozy restaurant serves wonderful food, with everything cooked to perfection.  The chef and team are excellent, as is everyone else who makes the restaurant function so well.  They have an excellent wine list with plenty of single glass choices if a bottle is too much.  Save some room for dessert.  You will not be disappointed.  Make sure to secure reservations in advance because without them you'll likely be turned away due to the tables being full all night.
