We took the Northern Lights Safari but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations.

The night was bitterly cold, around -15 to -20°C, and the experience started off poorly. Upon arrival at the gear shack, we were forced to change into their clothing, which was inadequate for the extreme cold. Despite arriving well-prepared with my own layered clothing and proper footwear, they insisted I wear their gear, rudely declaring, “If you don’t wear these, you stay.” It felt unnecessarily confrontational and inflexible.

Once on the snowmobiles, the ride itself was dull. We followed a trail through dark woods, seeing little apart from snow and glimpses of the sky. While the sky—especially the auroras—was beautiful and the only redeeming part of the tour, the rest of the experience was lackluster.

The 2-hour ride was punctuated by frequent stops every 5-10 minutes as the guide checked on the group, which only made the journey more tedious. Midway, we stopped at an empty shack to warm up and eat. There was no preparation in advance—both guides had to start fires to cook sausages, leaving us standing in the cold. For the price of the tour, I expected a better-organized experience, with the food and warmth ready upon arrival. Instead, we endured the freezing temperatures while everything was set up.

The food provided was minimal: one sausage, a cinnamon roll, and a cup of hot juice per person. After the break, the final leg of the ride was even worse. My hands and feet were painfully cold, and the helmets, with dirty visors, were impractical—either you couldn’t see clearly or your face was exposed to the freezing wind.

Overall, the tour felt poorly organized and lacked attention to detail. For the cost, it wasn’t worth the discomfort or frustration. If you’re looking for a Northern Lights experience, I’d recommend an aurora-hunting tour instead—you’ll likely have a far better time.

Very nice experience! Perfect guide and warm welcome. The electric power of the snowmobile is incredible because you really slide silently inside thr wonderful bush of Lappland!!

We had a 3 hour tour and absolutely loved it. Our guide alexie was so friendly and informative. It was amazing to drive across the frozen lake and up the hills through the pine forests. We stopped a couple of times for scenic photos then at the top in a log cabin to cook sausages on an open fire before returning. A truly memorable excursion I would recommend to everyone.
