A very inexpensive ferry ride will take you just a few minutes offshore away from the hustle and bustle of the capital and makes for a really nice walk through a historic site down quiet walkways and along the seashore.

It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site, just a short 15 minute ferry ride away.  While there wasn’t much to do on the island and it was quite windy during my visit, the views of the sea were stunning.  It’s considered one of the top places to visit in Helsinki, but keep your expectations in check. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Very pleasant place to spend a long afternoon (or a full day), on an island away from the city bustle which is quite peaceful even when there are lots of tourists. Apart from the ferry ticket (€2.95 or free with a Visit Helsinki card), the actual fortress buildings are all free, but there are charges to enter the museums and the church. I recommend visiting the submarine which was interesting - you can get into the military museum on the same ticket (€7). Be aware that it can get very hot on sunny days, there are plenty of places to buy food and water but it's overpriced. Get a map from the tourist info centre near the main ferry landing, and at least follow the 'blue route' if nothing else.

Take the ferry from Helsinki harbour for 3€ each way. Great place to spend a few hours. Nice views and a great i sight into finnish history.
