Excellent place to stay in a beautiful area, with very good food. Possibly questionable decor. Great new dining room with glass walls.
Rural feel  yet convenient for the Autoroute.

My husband & I were supposed to stay 2 nights out of a 6 night bicycle tour through the Burgundy region at the Chateau de Vault de Lugny. Unfortunately, my husband had an accident & I ended up staying at the Chateau by myself for 6 nights while my husband recovered at the hospital.
The Chateau Vault de Lugny property is magical with stunning grounds. The rooms are huge & gorgeous. The food is outstanding, delicious & the presentation incredibly beautiful.
Aside from all these amazing things there aren’t enough words to explain the care & kindness I received. There isn’t enough anything for me to express the gratitude I feel towards the owners, the chef & the whole staff. The thoughtfulness & compassion they have given me is something that I will never forget.
If you want to disconnect, stay in a beautiful place, eat amazing food, drink outstanding wines & be in a place where they cater to your every whim, this is the place for you!

The property is lovely, in a small quaint village in the heart of Burgundy.  As you arrive, you are excited to enter.  My issue is mostly with the   management,  who are clearly out to get as much €€€ as they can from guests, and what experience you receive as a hotel guest, especially something that is rated as 5 star.  1) They charged us €25 for a baby cot for our baby.  I have never been to any hotel in the world,  let alone 5 star, that has done that and I have travelled to more than 15 countries with my baby.  Also note, the price per night in high season is not inexpensive which makes a surcharge all the more outlandish  2) The owners are not very warm or welcoming and don’t really provide an experience that you would expect when entering an intimate chateau.  There is really no discernible passion and you don’t get any warmth or real welcome.  The property is small enough in terms of number of rooms for them to provide this since that’s part of the reason you decide to stay in accommodation like this and 5 star means a certain standard of treatment.  The rest of the staff are nice and helpful. 3) they charged us €50 euros per glass for wine that we ordered while at the pool.  They didn’t offer any options and didn’t inform us that a casual glass by the pool would cost this much which, if this is their only option, they should let guests know since I don’t think most people would assume a glass would cost this much.  We were shocked when we checked out and the owner basically told us it was a grand cru and didn’t offer any apology or gesture.  We travelled through Burgundy and 50 per glass for a grand cru is just overpriced and taking advantage of guests. 4) Food is limited.  They have a Michelin starred restaurant on the property but that is only open certain times and days and also is expensive.  The only other option they provide at night is a Bourgogne feast which is heavy on meat and doesn’t allow for a lot of choice.  Since you are in a remote village, you can’t exactly walk outside and find something else.  Vezelay is not far and there are some cute and tasty restaurants there but they should consider adjusting their dining options to be a bit more customer friendly. 5) Rooms are quaint and comfortable but haven’t been necessarily updated recently.  Things like the shower/bathroom could stand to have a few improvements - at least in the room we stayed in.

So all in all, beautiful property but we wouldn’t stay again after our experience.  Other reviewers have shared similar themes in their reviews to ours so doesn’t seem to be an isolated issue.

Mixed results for us. This is a splendid old castle, with moat, that has been mostly renovated. Interestingly, there were no public sitting rooms, just a bar. The real negative for us was the restaurant. The menus are pretty limited, which is not necessarily a terrible thing as it allows the kitchen to concentrate on doing a few things at a high level. The kitchen has a Michelin star but really did not compare to other dining experiences we had in our four weeks in Europe. The wine list is where it all came to a nadir. There were a handful of wines in the 100 euro plus range (none below) and hundreds in the multi-hundreds and thousands euro range. An experience never repeated at other one, two or three star restaurants.

Today was a very bad day because we had to leave the gorgeous Chateau de Vault de Lugny. My very picky husband even got a little misty eyed as we left the gate. It is a serene place with grand rooms, extraordinary food, generous and hospitable service, a magical piscine - a stately chateau situated near a stream, a wood, and a sycamore tree planted in 1614. The history is everywhere you look as is the magic of the French countryside. Two friendly dogs roam the expansive grounds with white peacocks and geese to watch as you dine on the terrace. Ask for the picnic and sit on the table near the stream and take in the quiet perfection of this place. If the staff is too elegantly French for you, or bathroom fixtures are more important to you than authenticity, or you don’t think a perfect French breakfast should highlight regional specialties like a cherry compote with ripe local cheese, jambon ham, and fresh baguette served by a gracious server who clearly loves life at the chateau, then don’t visit this special place. Go to some edgy millennial hotel with your preferred bathroom fixtures. This is a refined and quietly elegant place owned and run by a hardworking family, not a corporate enterprise. We were privileged to stay here, to bathe in the large bathtub and wear luxurious robes while looking out the old glass windows at the swallows nesting and the sumptuous grounds below, and that is what it feels like to stay here. A privilege. Don’t spoil it or try to change it. It’s perfect as it is.
