Nestled in the vibrant heart of Paris at 48 rue Saint-Maur, L'Afghanistan offers an authentic taste of Afghan cuisine that transports diners to the bustling markets and serene landscapes of Central Asia. This charming restaurant, with its warm ambiance and inviting aroma, has become a favorite among locals and travelers alike seeking a culinary adventure that combines rich flavors, aromatic spices, and a cozy setting. Whether you're a seasoned aficionado of Middle Eastern flavors or a curious newcomer, L'Afghanistan promises a memorable dining experience that celebrates the depth and diversity of Afghan gastronomy.

The Date had the vegetarian Ashak, which was ravioli with leeks and assorted vegetables topped with fresh cheese and sprinkled with mint and sumac. Delicious. A sneaky spice. I went with the Korme Aloubalou, which was sauteed veal with saffron and candied cherries, almond slices, and cumin white rice. Brilliant. Sweetness with sour and a hint of heat. More sneaky spice. The dessert was Halwa, which is an Afghan specialty from toasted flour prepared with sugar, almonds, raisins, and sprinkled with cardamom. Not beautiful, but a fantastic dessert, like a hot and savory bread pudding. I'd like to contrast this entire meal with Halle aux Grains. No dish was pretty to look at here; in fact, some of the dishes might even be considered ugly. But every bite burst and dazzled with complexity and deep flavor - a pleasure from bite to bite. I would eat here regularly if I lived in the area. I would not say that about Halle aux Grains, and this has nothing to do with price. 4.7.

How to spend one night in the mountains of Afghanistan 20 mn from Bastille!! The food, the service, the place itself... everything was perfect! All the starters are delicious with a special prize for the Kabab. As a main course we tried lamb and veal dishes (Ghazni Karahi and Korme bandjan-roumi) and both were succulent. 
Beer is really cheap but start with a door, a salted fermented milk with cucumber and pepper!

The halwa is sublime!

The lamb and lentils dish they usually serve in winter is wonderful comfort food without feeling the need for a handful of acidophilus capsules afterwards.

This is the best afghan restaurant I've found in Paris.
The staff is very nice and helpful if you don't know what to pick from the menu.
Everything tasted good, for quite a reasonable price.

I eat here quite often since I just totally adore this place, and its food. The restaurant itself looks charming and staff is very friendly. During weekends, if you come with 2+ people, it might be handy to make a reservation. There is a variety of starters, I tried several ones and all were very good. The mixed platter is a good idea to try out some things. Otherwise, the starter with aubergine is very nice. I also have nothing but praise for the main dishes. If you come on a Fri- or Saturday, make sure to order their specialty of lamb and afghan mixed rice. Absolutely delicious. There is plenty for vegetarians too. What is nice, is that all dishes don't feel too heavy, including the desserts. Desserts come with afghan rose water, cardamom or with another particular flavour, but I liked all. The best part is that it is not expensive at all: a 3 course meal is around 30€ - 35€ pp including a drink or two. Their mint tea is fresh and very good too. Definitely worth a visit!
