DELICIOUS!!!

Looking for dinner close to my hotel, I turned the corner and happened upon this place. There were a few people sitting in the outside cafe, so I decided to join them. I had passed a few of the cafes with no one in there. It always helps when there are already customers.

I walked into a happy welcoming face, who sat me in my chosen location, on the sidewalk, so I can people watch. Soon a server came over with a menu. Everything was written in French and English, thank God. Everything looked good, but I decided I wanted pasta. I went for the spaghetti bolognase. Oh my god, was it delicious!

At first I wanted more sauce, but once I tasted it, I could tell it was just the right amount. At first I wanted no bread, but after devouring half of my spaghetti, I realized that bread was a good offset. They also brought over my own canister of freshly grated parmesan. That topped it off. Everything was so damn good!

 I sat around another hour and had a cappuccino. I also had water with my meal. I really wanted to have dessert (chocolate cake and ice cream), but I was way too full. They give you very decent portion. I love this place and will be back.

Personally, my meal was fine.  A few issues, some in my benefit.  Staff English was ok, but not great which is fine, I'm the foreigner.  Somehow they had NO half bottles of wine or any full bottles of red wine other than a Shiraz, which I didn't want to pay for or drink alone much less with my Italian meal choices.  Anyway, after much consternation, the house red was quite nice by the glass, and I would have been fine with that if offered it first.  Then things went to heck.  Trio of women speaking Spanish were told credit card machine was broken and they had no cash.  Much screaming and yelling ensued.  Apparently they waited two hours for pizza which pissed them off mightily.  After 15 minutes of sitting 10 feet away from this display of vitriol, including a refusal to walk down the block to a cash machine, turns out one of them had the money.  And then the whole thing was repeated by the next couple (who witnessed all this) when they had to go. 

So in this chaos, I ended up with two orders (one free) of muscles and clams as my antipasto.  Solid broth, very tasty.  For dinner I had the escalops of veal in a mushroom sauce.  Again, sauce was on point, veal was only ok.  Skipped dessert and merited a hug when I had cash to pay my bill.  I would give them another shot on a different night next time I'm in town if I stay in the neighborhood (check out the Queen Mary hotel nearby!)

A place with lots of potential, but comes short due to very few noteworthy dishes and a somewhat unfriendly staff.  It is more of a quick bite place, rather than a nice sit down dinner restaurant, although their dim and inviting ambience may tell you otherwise. Their pizzas are tasty and have great blends of cheeses and very crispy crusts. I recommend you accompany them with the olive oil soaked in chili that is provided on the table. However, their pastas and appetizers are nothing too special and are underwhelming. In addition, their staff is quite inattentive and rude when asked questions to. Beyond the pizza, there isn't much to offer in this establishment.
