This appears to be the neighborhood hang-out much more than a specialities africaines restaurant. The service is sub-Parisian standard, and that's really saying something. The dining area has a very unpleasant odor to it, which could easily be a spice or side-effect of the cooking, but it was unpleasant nonetheless.

It gets two stars because the food was plenty tasty. 

The appetizer was something akin to Spam, only with a nut of some kind in it.

I had the poulet de suprise de chef, which came with carrots, onions and a very sweet yam-like accessory. It also came with rice, but the rest of the dish was so substantial, I didn't get into the rice.

I had that dish mainly because they were "out" of almost everything else on the menu. A restaurant with a selection like that really would do better to type up the selection (or even use a blackboard, like tends to be the trend in Paris). The same went for the drink menu, too; but seriously, I would have been happier picking my drink from a blackboard than trying to sort out what ones were "in season" today.

We wandered through the neighborhood and found this place by chance. Ordered accras de morue (cod fritters) and brochette de St Jacque and shrimp. The accras were very good, served w a delicious tomato based sauce and the brochettes were amazing (perfectly grilled, super fresh, deliciously flavored seafood) served on salad w a tangy vinaigrette. We also had a the veg Maffe (root veg cooked in tomato peanut sauce w rice and fried plantains. Good and filling, served with a killer homemade habanero hot sauce. yum! Yes, the service is slow, and be sure to check your bill as they can be distracted. But hey, it's worth it. Ambiance is so so.
