The chef's five-course "menu symphonie" will stand for a long time as one of the best meal's I've had. My partner and I spent two days cycling through Vendée after eating here. The passing fields and changing landscapes constantly reminded us of different aspects of this fantastic and inventive meal. As a celebration of regional produce and terrior it was a joyfully executed success. Very reasonably priced for the quality of dishes and pairing wines.

We were not sure what to expect when we arrived--much of Beaulieu is being renovated and the town was fairly empty.  Fortunately,, Le Cafe des Arts was open however and we had reserved a table.  The room was inviting and tables were well-distanced, hand sanitizer was available on the counter and in the restroom, as were disinfectant cloths.

A 3-course menu was available for $25 and my husband chose that.  I could not resist the veal sweetbreads and chose those with a squash soup entree from the menu du jour.  Before the soup arrived, the chef sent an 'amuse-bouche', a cappuccino of foie gras with foam of cheese and truffles.  It was delicious but rich, and serves with a strange combination of spoon/fork.  Really, a small spoon would have been best.  And in a way, it competed with our entree, a butternut squash and almond 'declination' which was a kind of soup with small cubes of squash in a puree with toasted slivered almonds and a foam atop.  It was nice, but not as good as the cappuccino, and a bit redundant.
The main course of menu was a disappointing crispy fresh chicken boudin with vegetables.  We love boudin, and this was finely ground chicken breast but without any herbs or spices--not even enough salt and pepper to make it interesting.  It was served with a cream sauce that did not add to the flavor.   The sweetbread, on the other hand, were finely cooked and served with a very good sauce of miso and soy sauce with sesames, and excellent puree of carrots.   And finally, the menu dessert of "Paris-Brest" was perfect, great ring of fresh creampuffs filled with luscious hazelnut cream.  Wine by the glass was expensive but good.
Service was impeccable.
