Came for afternoon coffee and cake- best cappuccino I’ve ever had! 12€ for an unforgettable coffee, decadent chocolate mousse, and stunning parlor- an excellent way to spent any afternoon in Avignon.

Great first dinner in Avignon for our last stop on our south of France holiday. We wanted to try the main restaurant but they were not open until later in the week. We had an earlier reservation (try to book way in advance as it can fill up quick in the busy months) as that was all that was available since we were on a waitlist. We were not starving after having a late lunch and decided to split 1 starter and 2 main courses. For the starter we ordered the green bean salad with summer truffle, Parmesan, and prosciutto. When the staff brought the food out we thought they misunderstood us as there were 2 salads brought to the table. The portion was large so we assumed they were bringing 2 starters but to our surprise the staff said the kitchen had split it into 2 plates for our ease. Not only was the portion plenty, but the dish was amazing. The perfect amount of truffle (some people go way overboard), salt, oil, and acid. Crisp and delicious. For the mains, I got the dish of the day (filet of beef with a side of red rice and other ingredients that I cannot remember). Cooked perfect medium rare with a wonderful red wine jus of some sort. My wife ordered the spaghetti with cherry tomatoes which was a delight as well. All in all spent €125 for a starter, 2 mains, and 2 glasses of wine from the region. After eating in St. Tropez this is a steal for the money and quality of food. Before leaving we made reservations with their other restaurant, Le Mirage, because we were so pleased with our meal!

Un bistrot dans un cadre d'époque agréable mais qui s'est révélé décevant  dès l'amuse bouche: un toast sec surmonté d'un anchois tristement allongé, toast prompte à s'envoler lors d'une tentative de découpe,
suivi du plat carné du jour: certes un travail minutieux de découpe, pour associer en alternance fines lamelles de boeuf et lamelles de graisse, cet assemblage donnant au final un steak assez banal, à la fois en goût et en apparence, le tout baignant dans une marre d'huile et accompagné d'un bol de frites en cheveux d'ange impossible à manger avec des couverts ordinaires. Quant à la salade annoncée avec cette accompagnement : elle n'est jamais arrivée. La déception du plat nous a décidé d'éviter toute prise de risque supplémentaire et d'en finir au plus vite afin de digérer à l'aide d'un citrate de bétaine.
Il n'est pas certain que ce bistrot face une bonne publicité au restaurant gastronomique voisin

A bistro in a pleasant period setting but which proved disappointing from the amuse bouche: a dry toast topped with a sadly elongated anchovy, toast quick to fly away when trying to cut it,
followed by the meat dish of the day: certainly meticulous cutting work, to alternately combine thin strips of beef and strips of fat, this assembly ultimately giving a fairly ordinary steak, both in taste and appearance, all bathed in a pool of oil and accompanied by a bowl of angel hair fries impossible to eat with ordinary cutlery. As for the salad announced with this accompaniment: it never arrived. The disappointment of the dish made us decide to avoid any additional risks and to finish it as quickly as possible in order to digest it with the help of betaine citrate.
It is not certain that this bistro faces good publicity from the neighboring gourmet restaurant

Un des restaurants mythique d’Avignon s’arme d’une version simple de ses propositions, pour le meilleur et aussi pour le moins bien.
Le cadre et le service reste irréprochable. On se sent confortable, chouchouté dans un cadre qui invite aux retrouvailles intimes.
Une entrée excellente (oeuf pané) qui annonce un bon moment. Un dessert très bon aussi.  Tout cela était parfait sauf le plat principal. Qui indique bien son nom et sa fonction.
Une escalope milanaise hélas noyée sous un ketchup (certes maison) dont il aurait été bon d’imaginer moins grossier son service. Un coin dans l’assiette aurait suffit. Tout comme l’escalope en elle même qui est déjà grossièrement coupée. Pas de lien entre les légumes et l’escalope. En vrai, un jus aurait surement mieux rempli sa fonction et élever le niveau de ce plat. Ma conjointe a aussi été déçue par les lasagnes dont la puissance du pesto recouvre les ingrédients (impossible de détecter du champignon la dedans en effet).
Bref, quelques ajustements pourraient facilement remonter le niveau de cette partie de l’établissement. Si le but est de rendre la cuisine accessible avec une formule « hors étoilée » cela ne devrait pas desservir la maison entière. On peut comprendre la stratégie d’ouverture et non moins commerciale (il y a rien de mal à cela) de créer une partie non gastronomique .. pour autant cela devrait avoir le même niveau, sinon meilleur que les établissements proposant des menus entre 45 et 60 euros. Qqes détails ont fait la différence. En espérant vous retrouver meilleurs encore la prochaine fois.
