I’m really shocked at how this hotel has a 4.6 review and maybe I completely missed something but I feel like I’m being quite generous with a 1 star rating. The rooms are a bit old and tired and nothing in them screams “5 star”. We were fresh off a stay at another SLH hotel location in Barcelona which was fantastic and truly a 5 star experience with friendly and helpful staff and great rooms. This location is like a €100 hotels.com pick. The “complimentary water” was a cheap plastic bottle and the in room coffee wouldn’t even be fitting for a Best Western. At breakfast, we had a juice spill on the table. Not one staff member offered to help, or even a napkin. They’re completely disengaged. Additionally, the location isn’t convenient to anything and the outside of the building, and neighborhood, were not exactly impressive. The cherry on top was them trying to charge me for an extra breakfast for my 2 year old who ate a croissant. This property is not deserving to be within the SLH property group with Hilton and is a poor representation of the Hilton brand.

This hotel was a pleasant experience. It is definitely not worth the price that we paid but it was not a bad hotel. The rooms were very nice, standard size for what I would expect in Europe. The shower and bath were nice and we used both. It was cold so we didn't use the outdoor pool, but the indoor pool, hot tub and spa were nice. Breakfast was a disappointment after our stay at a different SLH location in Narbonne but was acceptable.
The negatives are room layout vs office location and how to get to the breakfast area. We initially kind of got lost trying to find the breakfast area the first day. The paths are not flat, they are natural rock paths which made rolling luggage difficult. Only one restaurant and it's very expensive. The location itself is fine and felt safe, but it is not a hotel to book if you want to Uber from the airport and plan to walk everywhere. We read this on other reviews and we had a rental car because our main plan was visiting tasting rooms in Gigondas and Chateauneuf de Pape so it didn't cause us any issues.

Overall very positive experience for the restaurant, but not so good if you want to visit the avinion city centre as the only viable way to get there is Uber. The 5min drive advertised is incorrect. Most likely it will take ~30min depending on traffic.

I imagine that the Auberge Cassagne was once a rural retreat on the outskirts of Avignon.  Today it is not. Such is progress that  the encroaching mix of working class sprawl and industrial polígons provide an incongruent entreè for the promise of what is registered officially as a small luxury hotel of the world.  First signs not encouraging.  The entry is marked by a compound wall carrying the hotel signage  in a rather gaudy calligraphy a la 1970’s.  Our arrival and check in was smooth enough although it became clear that on first impressions, the glory and good standards for taste and style of the 1970’s had somehow remained in place as if time had not wearied them. Except that it had.  Everything was clean but tired and dated.   In the end, “ everything” , so to say,  is personal perception and opinion. I’m willing to accept that some people will love the “ charm” of the Auberge Cassagne.  I was not charmed in the least, and not least of all, for the exorbitant price.  More on that later. We were escorted to our suite by the porter, a character who gave an exhaustive account of everything that was “ free” and “ nice” about our room and its amenities.  It felt strange.  Our foray to the swimming pool included an attempt to order a cold beverage . The procedure includes a QR code for the menu but for some inexplicable reason, you must then dial the hotel reception from your mobile phone and place an order.  Two long distance calls to the hotel reception and 45 minutes later, our cold beverage had not yet arrived.  We then launched an expedition to find the beers and met them coming our way to which we settled for a sip in the garden surrounds.  The garden is a quadrangle of grassed area and hibiscus bushes surrounded by the motel rooms and suites.  To one end of the garden area, nearest the main building, we may find the restaurant.. .. ahh, yes.. the restaurant.   We arrived for dinner at 8.50pm.  Placed our order at 9pm.  By 10pm I had not eaten anything except bread. My wife was served a dish which she had not ordered.  I cancelled my first dish in the hope of expediting things for a bed time before 11pm.  Eventually my food arrived and indeed, both dishes were very nice.  The service was a disaster. The food was nice.  By this stage , and after having driven 7 hours across Italy, my mind had warped into a bourdeaux-induced paranoia that somehow we were in a hidden camera comedy and that infact everything was a deliberate set-up of Fawlty Towers proportions.  It was a very strange vibe indeed.  So strange that we resolved to cut our stay short.  Having prepaid the two night’s accommodation I took the €1200 bill on the chin but really, for as much as I could laugh about some of the surrealist adventure of 12 hours at the Auberge Cassagne, it was patently obvious that this auberge is NOT worthy of being a small luxury hotel of the world.  Nothing was “ free”, and neither was it “nice”.

The stay was pretty good, but two stars are justified by :

-a veeeeery overpriced restaurant. It wasn’t even a good time, despite an over 200€ bill.
- this is NOT a 5 stars hotel. I mean it’s cute, but the service was far from perfect, and the infrastructure is not unbelievable.

On the good side : the massages / treatment were nice.

Overall good experience, but way overpriced.
