Ich habe lange über mein 7-Gänge-Menü im JUWEL nachgedacht. Beginnen wir mit dem Ambiente: Es ist zweifellos edel, doch sowohl das Restaurant als auch die darüber liegende Sonnen Suite wirken meines Erachtens etwas aus der Zeit gefallen. Der Service war freundlich, aber nicht so professionell, wie ich es in dieser Kategorie erwarte.

Ein großer Kritikpunkt war die Dauer des Menüs – von 18:00 Uhr bis 23:30 Uhr. Für manche mag dies angenehm sein, für mich wäre eine Abfrage zum gewünschten Tempo der Gänge jedoch hilfreich gewesen.

Zum Essen: Ich hatte das vegetarische Menü. Leider blieb kein Gang nachhaltig in Erinnerung. Bei einem Menü dieser Klasse erwarte ich, dass die Gänge einzigartig und memorabel sind. Ein Problem war, dass kleine Rübchen in verschiedenen Variationen recht häufig vorkamen – sie waren zwar perfekt gegart, trugen jedoch nicht zur Kreativität der Gänge bei. Das Mango-Curry-Dessert war ein Lichtblick, ebenso das Brot mit verschiedenen Aufstrichen, das durchaus schmackhaft war.

Die Weinauswahl hingegen war hervorragend und ließ keine Wünsche offen.

Insgesamt war der Abend ein interessantes Erlebnis, das jedoch nicht vollständig meinen Erwartungen entsprach.

I thought about my 7-course menu at JUWEL for a long time. Let's start with the ambience: It is undoubtedly elegant, but in my opinion both the restaurant and the sun suite above it seem a bit out of date. Service was friendly but not as professional as I expect in this category.

A big point of criticism was the length of the menu - from 6:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. This may be pleasant for some, but for me a query about the desired speed of the gears would have been helpful.

About the food: I had the vegetarian menu. Unfortunately, none of the courses left a lasting memory. With a menu of this caliber, I expect the courses to be unique and memorable. One problem was that small turnips in various variations were quite common - although they were perfectly cooked, they did not add to the creativity of the courses. The mango curry dessert was a bright spot, as was the bread with various spreads, which was quite tasty.

The wine selection, however, was excellent and left nothing to be desired.

Overall, the evening was an interesting experience, but it didn't completely meet my expectations.

Ein exzellenter Service, mit professionellem Blick fürs Detail, einem nicht aufdringlichen, angenehmen und humorvollen, menschlichen  Umgang. Es war ein sehr schöner, kulinarisch sensationeller und kurzweiliger Abend. Der Stern ist verdient!

Schade fand ich nur, dass bei einem 7-Gänge-Menü die Weinbegleitung nur aus Weißweinen bestand und die Vorfreude auf die roten Weine somit enttäuscht wurde.

Verglichen mit anderen deutschen 1-Stern-Restaurants empfand ich zudem das gesamte Preisniveau als überdurchschnittlich. Insbesondere bei der Weinauswahl, die noch ausbaufähig ist, nahm ich eine gewisse Überteuerung wahr. Rotweine von vor den 2000er Jahren habe ich auf der Karte gänzlich vermisst.

Es freut mich jedoch außerordentlich, so ein Restaurant hier in der Oberlausitz vorzufinden!

An excellent service, with a professional eye for detail, a non-intrusive, pleasant and humorous, human approach. It was a very nice, culinary sensational and entertaining evening. The star is deserved!

I just found it a shame that for a 7-course menu the wine accompaniment only consisted of white wines and the anticipation of the red wines was therefore disappointed.

Compared to other German 1-star restaurants, I also found the overall price level to be above average. I noticed a certain overprice, especially with the wine selection, which still has room for improvement. I completely missed red wines from before the 2000s on the menu.

However, I am extremely pleased to find a restaurant like this here in Upper Lusatia!
