Die Südpanke ist der alte Unterlauf der Panke. Sie zweigt auf Höhe der Schulzendorfer Straße von der Panke ab und mündet in die Spree auf Höhe Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin-Mitte.

Durch umfangreiche Ausbauarbeiten Ende des 18. bzw. Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde der ehemalige Schönhauser Graben zur Panke und ca. 2,8 km “Alte Panke” wurden zur “Südpanke”.

Im Jahr 1961 führte der Mauerbau auf Höhe der Chausseestraße zur Verfüllung und Zerstörung der Südpanke. Die Trasse der Südpanke verlor damit den Charakter als offenes Fließgewässer und diente nur noch als Vorfluter für Regenwasser und Grundwasser.

Nach einem Konzept zur Wiederbelebung der Südpanke wurden ab 1998 mehrere Abschnitten geöffnet und wiederhergestellt:

im Bereich der ehemaligen Veterinärmedizinischen Fakultät der Humboldt-Universität
zwischen Habersaathstraße und Philippstraße
zwischen Habersaathstraße und Ida-von-Arnim-Straße
Die Wiederbelebung der Südpanke soll bis Mitte 2021 mit einem Teilstück 100 m nördlich der Ida-von-Arnim-Straße abgeschlossen werden.

The Südpanke is the old lower reaches of the Panke. It branches off from the Panke at Schulzendorfer Straße and flows into the Spree at Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin-Mitte.

Through extensive expansion work at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century, the former Schönhauser Graben became the Panke and approx. 2.8 km of “Alte Panke” became the “Südpanke”.

In 1961, the construction of the wall at Chausseestraße led to the filling and destruction of the Südpanke. The route of the Südpanke lost its character as an open river and only served as a receiving water for rainwater and groundwater.

According to a concept to revitalize the Südpanke, several sections were opened and restored from 1998:

in the area of ​​the former Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Humboldt University
between Habersaathstrasse and Philippstrasse
between Habersaathstrasse and Ida-von-Arnim-Strasse
The revitalization of the Südpanke is scheduled to be completed by mid-2021 with a section 100 m north of Ida-von-Arnim-Straße.
