We stayed at a suite with a nice balcony connecting to a small standard room both overlooking the lake.

Service was great from arrival till departure.

They have a beautiful lobby lounge. Nice view, seating arrangements and nice music in the evening.

First time to Hamburg but we love this hotel. We’ll come back.

It will be  much more beautiful in the spring we guess. With the view and access to the lake surroundings.

Very special hotel. The room was incredible, high tech and classy and with a lovely balcony facing a leafy quiet street. Personally for me the location is one of the best things about this hotel. However, if you like more noise and pollution and do not enjoy walking into town along the beautiful lake next to the Fontenay then maybe this hotel is not for you. Breakfast is amazing and the rooftop bar just as good. The best thing about this hotel is the staff, they will ALL look after you like you are part of their family, that’s special and not easy to achieve that level of service.

I’ve stayed at The Fontenay many times, and it’s truly a special place. The location by Lake Alster is peaceful and perfect for relaxing, yet still close to the city. The whole team is incredible – from the reception to the spa, housekeeping, and breakfast staff, everyone goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. A big thanks to the General Manager, Mr. Sponholz, whose leadership really shows in every detail. The rooftop spa and infinity pool are amazing, and the food is always fresh and delicious. The Fontenay is a true gem in Hamburg – the perfect place to recharge and feel cared for. Highly recommend!

Fantastic place. We went last April and we intend to go again soon. Excellent hotel, with very friendly and attentive staff. Our room was really good (Deluxe). Excellent breakfast. The indoor/outdoor pool is great, with beautiful views of the city. We had lunch at the Parkview restaurant. It was really good. Simpler dishes with a daily weekday menu and a la carte. We also had dinner at the 2-star Michelin Lakeside restaurant. This was fabulous. Great food and an outstanding wine pairing. One of the best in Hamburg (better than The Table, in my opinion). Very friendly and competent service, and a great Sommelier. We'll definitely go back.

Enjoyable stay, relaxing rooms and the spa was calm and welcoming with a great view. One of the doormen and most other personnel were friendly. Nice breakfast although whoever makes the scrambled eggs probably has never tried it themselves.

Loved the rooftop bar (thank you doorman for letting me know it exists) and especially the fantastic loungey-romantic live music.

Oh and the balcony doors are way too heavy. Bring a strong man to open them for you.
