We went for a 12th birthday celebratio and had a wonderful meal with wine for adults at former Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s favorite Pfälzer Weinstub’. Finally, I have something in common with Queen Elizabeth II, Mikhail Gorbachev, Václav Havel, Ronald Reagan, Jacques Chirac, Erich Honecker, Margaret Thatcher, Boris Yeltsin, John Major who dined at St. Urban during visits! The welcome and service were impeccable. The atmosphere warm. The wines impressive. The cuisine like the wine still a celebration of the region. Absolutely class institution.

Decided to try out this institution in the Pfalz and went there for lunch on a Saturday.

Unfortunately the quality of the food and the service was way below expectations.

We‘ve had several dishes, most of them way too salty. The sauce hollandaise served to the asparagus wasn‘t prepared well, the Wiener Schnitzel spent a lot of time somewhere between the frying pan (or maybe fritteuse?) and our table.

Service was also a total disaster, slow and hectic. We‘ve asked them to move us to a shady table if one becomes available, this was forgotten. We‘ve complained about one of the dishes being too salty, nothing was done to try to make it right. Finally they brought out the bill twice with the same mistake, it took about 20 minutes to finally pay and leave.

All in all, way overpriced, do yourself a favor go to one of the many other good restaurants in the Pfalz and avoid this place…
