My experience at the Generator was quite nice. The rooms are not their strongest point, but I would like to congratulate the staff, as they were always very kind with any inquiries we had.

Having a bar and social areas inside the building is always a great way to meet new people and enjoy your free time.

The location was quite good—just a 10-minute walk from the center, and the area is also nice and peaceful at night.

I would recommend this place if you are going with a group of friends and book an entire room with people you know. (I didn’t have the experience of booking a single bed and sharing with other tenants I didn’t know.)

Overall, I had an amazing time there. Thanks for everything, and a big shoutout to the staff! Thanks once again!

I was disappointed with our stay at the Generator. I stayed there 6 years ago and loved it, it was clean, staff was friendly, and there was a great vibe.

This time, the staff are still wonderful and very friendly, but the rest has gone down. The shared space, including the lobby and bar area are nice and welcoming. The floor we stayed on smelled like an old locker room, and the dorm was even worse. Another issue with the dorm was that someone came into the room during the night claiming I was in their bed. They were in the wrong room, which means that they were able to get into the room with a key card, which didn’t feel that safe.

We then switched to a “deluxe king” room, which was on the main floor, with the windows into the courtyard where people were coming and going all day. We could hear the music from the bar at night. The washroom was not the greatest nor cleanest. Not worth the price for a private room when there are hotels that are cleaner, quieter and closer for a better price.

The downstairs/ bar area was great. Had loads of fun. The location was great for us as was only 10 minutes walk to where we were going.
The downside was the room was not that great. No hand towel in the bathroom unless we wanted to pay for it. The bedding had a few stains on them . It didn’t feel clean. The bathroom was filthy. For the price that we paid, probably wasn’t worth it.

Despite the reputation for being a loud and noisy youth hostel, my stay was quite pleasant. There were never any issues with noise from the other rooms at night.
I stayed in a 6-bed all-girls dorm on the 2nd floor. The room was pretty warm, so we had to crack the window. The window was small, but there's a fan provided to help circulate the air.
Overall the place was clean, but when I first arrived, the shower was covered in mold. However, this was all cleaned up by the next afternoon, so that was good to see. Despite that, the neat and clean freaks out there might have a rough time.
I traveled with a large checked-bag and was able to use the storage lockers before check in. For large checked bags, it is 1€ for an hour, 6€ for 6 hrs, and 8€ for a day. There are definitely cheaper places to store luggage, but only if you enjoy a 15 minute walk.
Once in my room, I was delighted to find that my entire checked-bag could fit into the under-bed storage locker. There was even some room for me to squeeze in a mostly-empty backpack.
Overall, it isn't a bad place to stay, and you can't beat the location. If someone was looking to do Dublin on a budget, I would feel comfortable recommending this hostel.

The staff seems nice, rooms are fine but the biggest problem was the bathroom. Faucet leaking on the floor, molds and apparent damage everywhere.
For the price paid, it's unacceptable. Dormitories are supposed to be somewhat cheap for a few days, not a predatory way to extort money from students and alike. Everything has to be paid (everything) and the restaurant prices are way too high to be competitive with what you can find around.
I do not recommend this place to anyone. It was really not enjoyable to share a broken bathroom.
