Our experience at Ballyfin was incredible. This is a historical property that boasts a unique history, beautiful fine art, and an overall unbeatable ambience. The community of staff is beyond lovely and welcoming. The grounds are stunning with ample activities available, and you get access to golf carts and bikes to cruise around and explore on. The food was delicious. Room was spacious, clean, and had a very comfortable bed.  It was a once in a lifetime experience staying here, I would have extended it if I could have! If you have the opportunity stay here - do it!

I recently stayed at Ballyfin for the second time, having first visited in 2017. Unfortunately, my experience this time was a bit underwhelming, especially when compared to the exceptional stay I had previously.

On arrival, I was disappointed to find that there were no Christmas decorations, and the lobby felt lacking in atmosphere, which is not what I expected from a five-star property, especially during the festive season. It set the tone for a stay that didn’t quite match my previous visit.

However, our room was lovely – beautifully appointed and very comfortable – and the turn-down service was a highlight, truly exceptional. I had high hopes for the service, as my past visit was marked by outstanding attention to detail, but this time it fell short. The service was noticeably slow, and on several occasions, we were left waiting for 10-15 minutes before being attended to, which, given the reputation of Ballyfin, felt quite disappointing.

Dinner was fine but not remarkable. The hake main course was beautifully prepared, but the portion size was quite small. While that might suit those opting for the tasting menu, for an à la carte meal, it felt meager. Breakfast was, unfortunately, the most disappointing part of the stay. The avocado toast arrived with a hard wedge of avocado, making it difficult to eat, and the homemade granola was lovely but could have been elevated by the addition of fresh fruit or compote, especially considering the hotel’s high standards.

The staff, for the most part, were friendly and welcoming, but it was clear they were understaffed. This led to delays in service, which, again, felt out of character for a hotel of this caliber. I was hoping to feel truly pampered, as I did during my first visit, but that element was sorely missing this time.

We also took a walk around the gardens, and while I understand it’s November, the grounds felt rather neglected. Many plants and flowers were left to wither rather than being cut back, which detracted from the usual beauty of the property.

Overall, this was a disappointing experience compared to my previous stay at Ballyfin. While the room and some aspects of the service were good, the overall experience lacked the warmth and attention to detail I had expected. I’m hesitant to return, as the hotel no longer feels like the exceptional, pampering escape it once was

Five stars doesn't do it justice! Absolutely incredible service and attention to detail in every respect. Food, drink, rooms and facilities were all top-notch. Could not recommend highly enough.

This was such an amazing experience on so many levels!! We were able to do so much on the grounds and venture our on the gold carts at our leisure. We went fishing, horse back riding, skeet shooting, did falconry, which I would highly recommend!! We did a horse and buggy around the property and saw all the gardens, such beautiful plants and flowers. We had the most amazing picnic, that was one of my favorites. We ventured into town to hang with so many amazing people, one nicer then the next, and when we returned everyone at Ballyfin was there to greet us and went above and beyond my expectations!!!! The food, drinks and staff at the Ballyfin were absolutely perfection!!! Each of the rooms in the main area were beautiful, we had tea in the gold room and drinks in the library and drinks at the downstairs pub with Sean & Carlo. We did a whiskey tasting and had late night snacks when we returned home from Port Laoise. A great bar to visit is Bergins,  happen to experience several musicians playing traditional Irish music on a Wednesday night. My husband and I enjoyed every minute of everyday day we were there!!!
