I've done a couple of visits to the Workman's Club now. Both times visited their Craic Den comedy club. The bar is rough around the edges, but a decent place to come for some drinks (food is not an option, so far as I know). There is a small billiards table and a couple of fussball tables. A large smoking patio on the upper floor. The comedy club is a classic small space that has been carved out of a couple of rooms. Though the quality of the talent is a bit entry-level (for €12.50 you're not getting Dave Chapelle), by the 2nd half of the sets they are consistently decent. The predictable crowd-work that characterizes the host's performance indicates that few locals come here, nestled, as it is, on the River Liffey, just upstream of the heart of Temple Bar. Drinks are basic but serviceable, though they sometimes run out of basics on their menu. Staff are friendly, in spite of being endlessly put upon by tides of tourists.

The first stop on the pub crawl that I did through one of the tour groups, the beer was cheap and the place got very crowded from 7:30 through until we left at around 8:30. I can't say that I was very impressed with it. It was very dense with cigarette smoke and the background music was very loud. Shouting loud. The queue for the bar was a disorganized cluster. Some tables and some seating but lots of standing room. But they do have food.

What a cool place! We went upstairs for a few quiet early week pints. It's very big and I can imagine that it's packed at the weekends as its also a live music venue. There is an open fire - score! The Guinness was OK, bit too fast on the pulling or maybe I was a bit slow that day. All you smokers out there, there is a very impressive smoking area. All you friends of smokers out there, there is a place that you can breathe, be warm and still talk to your friends (I'm usually left alone as my friends run out to smoke their fags). All you cigar smokers like me, maybe you should have a table to yourself, sadly not everyone likes the smell of cigars. Very funky lightening and designs going on in a Berlin type of way as in squat not superb and perfectly portioned interior design. Downstairs is a larger bar which also looks warm and fun. I did like this spot and I intend to catch a live act there soon.

SERVICE IS EVERYTHING. I ordered a drink from a lovely lad in a "man bun" It was captain and orange. Once receiving the drink I seen it was and orange Fanta mix. I can not drink anything with carbonation since it makes me sick. I assumed orange juice. I asked if possible if I could please swap it out. He said rudely, no- you ordered it so drink it otherwise you have to pay for another drink. I was shocked. Once he ran the card I told him how my friend and i were bartenders in the US and would've really taken care of him. His friend with a beard came to his defense and Said well your in Ireland not the US. I was in shock. I said clearly ! He told me to go back to the US again. Wow. A place of business- this is how you loose money. I will happily take my self back to the US where business continues to grow in our bars because of the way we treat people. Happy customers spend money, pissed off ones let the rest of the world know THAT THIS PLACE SUCKS.

Possibly my favourite spot in dublin. I adore the workmans club! They have great music, the occasional fantastic act, an unreal atmosphere and the drinks selection are affordable and all are tasty! Especially the Long Island ice tea. The staff are super friendly and nice and there is always a great buzz about the workmans. My favourite part of the building has to be the smoking area which has a new burger joint built in along with a really awesome decor that is crazy colourful and bright and the open roof is ideal for a sunny evening. I would urge people to visit this place as its a hidden gem in Dublin City Centre!

You can definitely let your freak flag fly here! We were referred to this location on a Sunday night after everything had already closed. We got $5 pints of beer and hung out while listening to 80s music. People here aren't afraid to dance and there really is a diverse crowd of mixed races, gay people, straight people, people on drugs, drunk people, and people just there for music. My friend and I really enjoyed the laid back vibe and the music, it is a judgement free zone and you can dance however you like! Great place to cut loose!

Pretty cool music venue. Went here early for a gig at 9:00pm. The downstairs is actually a decent size for a concert. The sound is very good and has a professional set up. The decor is set up as if you are sitting in someones house from 30 years ago but it works well here. After the concert we went upstairs- Again you fee like you are walking through someones home with open fireplaces and old doorways/ stairs. There is a really large beer garden but I tend to avoid as I am not a smoker. By 11:30pm the crowd was still pretty light but just after mid night it got pretty crowded. The crowd itself is very much a mix of hipsters and young Dubliners interested in the local music scene.

I have been to this place several times and I now have enough background to catch the spirit of the workman's ! This is actually one of my favorite spots in Dublin, especially the patio on the top floor which has recently been redecorated with catchy colors (see photos) We usually go there between friends after work on Thursday and Friday to get a table in the patio and a fresh beer. In the summertime it is actually pretty pleasant to get the last hours of light around there. The mood is totally different (but still nice though) if you go later to party all night. The place get crowded and the music is pretty loud but good vibes :) The bar is on several floors, in an old hotel I guess with fireplaces and wood everywhere ! I definitely recommend this place if you want to spend a good time between friends

Finally I made it to The Workmans Club and it was for fabulous cabaret show. Joined to Bison Bar, we fuelled up on some BBQ before we made our way up and then back down to the venue. It wasn't terribly busy, so going to the bar was quick. She was a nice lass too, serving. I also like style of the front bar: red walls, B&W tiled floor, candles and an open fire place. Full of character. Inside the venue most of the seats had been reserved, but we managed to find some spare seats down the back, to the side. And we enjoyed the show. Good sound system. The Ladies were grand. Very rough around the edges decor wise, as is usual with music venues bogs. But there was toilet seats and loo roll, which is a lot better than most venues I've experienced. Recommended.

Good environment, quirky design, nice outdoor area, good service good drinks. I have seen a couple of bands here, the Brad Pitt Light Orchestra being one, and it is a good music venue. The prices are Temple Bar prices. If I have friends from out of town who are into the kind of vibe this place offers then this is where we go as it is the best of its kind. There is nothing really special to push it for the fifth star.
