Yes it is a very expensive shop to be doing your grocery shopping in but in fairness i don't think they expect you to buy lots of stuff, i mean, look at the size of the tills, you only get a little counter to unload all your things out of your basket, its not like they have the conveyor belt type thing like you get in tesco. You know, the bread in here is nice but i have gotten better elsewhere, although i do really like their pastries. what i would normally come to this shop for is the things that cant really be gotten anywhere else. like they do that lucky charms cereal from America and they usually have a better range of ritter sport chocolate. also they have a good wine section. All the stuff that's bad for you that you cant get in Ireland(maybe for a health reason!) you can get here. yum yum yum!

I went for a 'trial' as a cashier here a few years ago. I had to do a group interview so I believe there were many of us doing this. I got a call on a Sunday asking me to do 4 hours on Monday evening. On the phone the told me to wear black shoes, black trousers and a black shirt. When I arrived early on Monday, they asked me 'where my tie was?!!'. There was about 30 seconds of training and I was thrown in on the till. Four hours later I finished my 'trial' and I had served plenty of customers. I was told that they would give me a call. I never heard from them again. Not even a 'thank you'. Clearly they felt it was okay to get as much free labour as they wanted from young people during the recession. They lost a customer for life here anyway. 1 star is too much!

I go to Donnybrook Fair on Baggott St every other day for lunch and it has a great variety of foods - everything from rolls, wraps, noodles and sushi to salads, cakes and fruit and veg. I tend to stick to the salads from the Deli counter but that may have something to do with the fact that they leave delectable testers out everyday for all and sundry to sample.... By going to the deli you can indulge in regular salads like pasta, broccoli+feta cheese, char grilled chicken and cous cous or you can be more adventurous and go for fishcakes, quiche, a frittata or scotch eggs. Whatever your taste, you'll definitely get something you fancy.

I was having some friends over for dinner and I decided to do my shopping at Donnybrook Fair to make it an extra special evening. What a great experience! I was bracing myself for obscene prices, but I was actually super impressed. Some of the deals were the same as other supermarkets like Superquinn and Tesco. For example, raspberries and strawberries were 2 for €5. A generously-sized pork tenderloin to serve 3 was just over €7. A delicious bottle of Chablis was €17. As I was shopping in a new place and wasn't familiar with the store layout, I had to ask the staff for help finding a few specific items: walnuts, nutmeg and a few other things that don't necessarily stand out on the shelves. Everyone was really friendly and pointed me in the right direction. The butcher was also very helpful and efficient. The wine staff went WAY out of their way to help me find the perfect pairing for my meal. I told them what I was making and they spent a good 5-7 minutes talking to me about different options and the ins-and-outs of wine pairings. They even had samples! If I lived closer, and wasn't a broke grad student, I would shop here all the time!

Everything is in order, tidy in a perfect way, clean, fresh. You can find products that you probably do not find in other places in Dublin. If you buy fish and it always fresh, you buy meat and it always fresh too. The same for cheese ( big selection ), wine, beer, bread, fruits and vegetables. They have a meal deal from one starter, one side, one main, and a bottle of wine, and of course it's very fresh. Probably you pay more but its without chemical stuff.

Little known fact (well, I only just found out!) - Donnybrook Fair is owned by the same people that own Londis, although don't expect the same friendly 'Close to You' branding to get a look in anywhere in this sanctuary of organic premium super-foods for D4 yummy-mummies. The typical customer parks their Cayenne outside, pushes their sunglasses on top of that head of immaculate dyed blond hair before strolling down the aisles to pick up some wild salmon and gluten free organically grown wheat bread and a cheeky bottle of white for lunch with the girlies. Stereotypes aside this place is full of very good food and wine, albeit at a premium! Not one for the weekly shop, but for top of the range fresh organic ingredients you'll struggle to find a better selection.

Since I've used DB Fair on an almost daily basis for the last 8 years, it would be a shame not to write a review. All in all, great food options, some rare ingredients you won't find elswhere (although we are spoilt in having Roy Fox's fruit & veg store in Donnybrook also). The deli has a fantastic array of salads, cured meats & cheeses. The fruit & veg section is well stocked and the produce is fresh and of good quality. The bad stuff - well you can't write about Donnybrook Fair without mentioning the prices. Phew. My one recommendation for Donnybrook Fair, is to always check two things - your receipt after purchase (I've had quite a few "mistakes" in my time shopping there) as well as the Best Before dates on products. Maybe it's just laziness, I don't know, but they definitely need to improve on their pricing accuracy and their stock rotation.

Got a couple of hundred Euro to burn on the weekly shop? Well if you live in Donnybrook you probably would do. Located on main street, Donnybrook, D4, DF has all your posh food needs. The range of foods is pretty mind boggling, there's also a deli which is pretty good and a well stocked wine section and grocery store. A big selection of ready made meals and pre prepared lunches and snacks are also available. To be fair to DF, no pun intended there, they are unashamedly aiming at the higher end of the market with prices to match and the quality is top notch. There's a cookery school and restaurant located above the main Donnybrook branch. They also have a shop on Baggot Street, which is more of take away lunch place but with the same range of high quality, i.e. overpriced food. Similar to the Avoca food hall but the southside. It is certainly a long way from Abbey Stores back in the grubby 80's!
