The pics on their website are lies. This place is a dump. Rooms are very small; bathrooms are not clean. Carpet is dirty, paint peeling; not at all how they advertise themself. They DO NOT have parking. They negotiate with parking garages. No where to drop off luggage; have to park and then carry everything to hotel. No A/C and window slants open 5". No breeze or draft. Last night in Ireland and today is birthday. What a fecking joke.

Location and $69 rate for Sun night are only reason this might be a 3 star. The bed was awful. The pillow was about an 8 x 10 and looked like it was a bunch of old stuffing pushed into a pillowcase. The bed took up the whole room. The view was an alley. There is a small tv (about 19") mounted on the wall. The worst part is the tv has this super bright blue light when it is off. All night long it illuminated the room. The noise outside was pretty loud. The library bar is a nice place to relax. We asked for a wake up call to catch our flight to US. NO WAKE UP CALL!! The front desk was very disorganized and our phone didn't work upon check in. My husband played around with the phone it but still was not reliable connection. Luckily, we set our phones as back up. When we asked the front desk someone had thrown the sheet away accidentally with all the wake up requests. No apology, etc.

Horrible. I attended a course here for 5 days. The staff were not at all helpful and I could see perhaps why, the guy doing the tea seemed to be doing all of the rooms that were having conferences and was very busy. The ladies toilets were run down and only two of the three doors actually locked! The room was poorly lit and very stuffy but when we opened the windows because this hotel is central town, it is very noisy. A fellow delegate stayed in the hotel and said it was very noisy until she was moved to a higher room.

I have friended Central Hotel on Facebook. That's how tender my feelings are for this establishment. I stayed here in early March in a triple room. I thought that for the trifling amount of money I paid to stay here, it met and occasionally exceeded my expectations. If you are not used to staying in European hotels, then perhaps you had better spring for the Radisson, dummy. Yeas: -Surprisingly clean room with an ample bathroom. Not bad for an old, cheap, European hotel. -Free Wi-fi! And unlike other old, cheap, European hotels boasting the same amenity, the signal strength was pretty damn good. -Unbeatable location for the price. Temple Bar is a happening place in a touristy kind of way. Pints tend to run pricier. However, if you chose Dublin as your vacation spot with the express purpose of getting wrecked and acting like a moron, this is probably the best place to do that. Aside from the proximity to numerous watering holes, it is also very near Trinity College. Coincidence? I think not. -Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. -The Library Bar is on the second floor. Classy. Nays: -Our bathroom had a shower malfunction--more specifically, the hot water was way out of control. I got out of the shower looking like Freddy Krueger. Still not sure if it was a legitimate malfunction or if I'm just inept at dealing with plumbing outside of the United States. There's a 50-50 chance that either one of these explanations is true. -No AC, be warned. Of course, this only matters if it is sweaty balls outside. -The walls were pretty thin. This fact didn't really bother me much, but when the guests in the next room complimented me on my lovely singing voice as we passed each other in the hallway, I realized that this may not be so awesome for those who lack proper appreciation for Tuvan throat singing. -SCARIEST. ELEVATOR. EVER. Literally. It's old. It's tiny. It lurches in a terrifying way when it stops, and makes alarming screeching sounds when it moves. -The Library Bar is on the second floor... (I'm sorry. This place confuses me. I don't understand the crowd there. Sometimes it's hipsters, sometimes it's cougars, and sometimes it's old men in tweed jackets drinking snifters of cognac. ???) In conclusion, I was pleased as punch with my 4 day, 3 night stay, and will most definitely stay here again if I ever find myself back in Dubs.

Welcome to the greatest hotel in Dublin!!! Ok, maybe not but still it's pretty great. It was built in 1887 and has the same carpet and decor still till this day! Kidding, well kind of... You can't beat the location, it's pretty much in the heart of everything (as far as sight seeing) but far enough away from the chaos that is Temple Bar. It has all the amenities you need, cozy rooms with soft pillows, internet downstairs, and a little breakfast if you're up that early. It even has it's own bar inside called The Library. All of this for a descent price. The staff is cheerful (except for the late night watchman) and will help you whatever your needs are. The same for the bartenders in The Library, they are fun to chat with and are very attractive. My only complaint is that it is loud at night. Our first room faced the inner courtyard which had a bar below (I didn't get any sleep at for the first two nights), but the front desk let us switch rooms and with a free upgrade even. I was ok with the first room but this new room was double the size and had a small living room. The noise was a little better but it still was very loud. Also the garbage pick up will for sure wake you up, so bring ear plugs. Even so I would stay here again!

Great location and affordable. The rest of this review is for my fellow Americans who might be looking for a quiet hotel with a hot shower-- this is a classic European hotel complete with functionality we found confusing and not intuitive at all. A few instructions would have been helpful -- like for instance the hot water system. Unless you notice and turn on the bathroom exhaust fan (unmarked wall switch outside the bathroom), you'll never have a hot shower because that switch also activates the on-demand hot water heater. My first shower in Dublin was cold -- my bad. There are no markings or instructions anywhere -- in any European hotel -- welcome to Europe, you foolish newbie from 'merica! If you are European, you obviously learned this hot water acquisition skill at about the same time you learned how to ride a bike as a kid. So there's that. Also, try to avoid the occasional (every 20-year) Dublin heat wave, because this hotel doesn't have A/C. Why would they need it, right? So, you can open the two classic double-hung windows to their full opening height of 8-inches (I suppose to prevent suicide attempts). But, then, if you happen to be in a room on the second floor, above The Globe pub, 233 in our case, you'll be regaled by the 2 am and 3:30 am "drinkers rush hours" awoken and initiated at around 1 am with loud music, loud talkers, intermittent verbal altercations, drunken public domestic disputes (geez, I especially felt bad for one young lady who seemed to be 'done' with her boyfriend, and here's the kicker-- cars with I assume drunk drivers in the 2-2:15 am 'traffic jam' HONKING their car horns like it'll make a difference fully ignorant of the fact there MIGHT be now sober and awake hotel guests above their 'mean' streets at 2 am and their morning aggression (realizing that a 2nd floor jump to the street would only cause a broken ankle, so maybe they could let us open the window another foot or two to cool off and fully hear all of the late night revelry). And all the online tour information about Ireland says there are strict DUI laws here?! Poppycock! So, at 2:30, there's an intermission, but it's not over yet, because the select 'several' Thursday night par-tiers get to continue to drink and dance to loud base thumping music until -- wait for it -- a 3:30 a.m. closing time. Oh, to be young again! I'm sure I would have participated in this coolness when in my 20's. But, today, in my 50s, I'm amazed -- not so much by the capacity to drink and on a short nights sleep, go to work the next 'Friday' morning -- I'm amazed that incessantly honking loud car horns with no regard at 2 and then to a lesser degree again at 3:30 for the two drink-ending rush hours, is a-okay. Not that the Garda (Irish police force for you Yankees reading this review) don't care, I heard a few "rush hour" police sirens wailing -- I imagine DUIs are like shooting fish in a barrel -- if the Garda wanted to actually pursue this infraction. Anyway, I finally got to sleep again at 4:15. Cheers! Seems that central Dublin might be more like Vegas than Disney. Good for them! Overall, this was a good property. Thursday night partying isn't something they can control, after all, nor the heatwave... just be aware this phenomenon is real. And it may impact your sleep...

We just loved this hotel! The location couldn't have been better being close to Grafton Street's shopping and Temple Bar's nightlife but far enough were you will get some sleep. There is also a hotel bar called the Library which is worth a look and an adjacent gastropub called exechequer that has really good food. The rooms were spectacular! We had the family room on the fourth floor which had 2 bedrooms and a small bathroom. Being completely jet lagged from our transatlantic flight it was a blessing to have room-darkening shades in the room. The only ones we found in any of the Irish hotels and B&Bs we stayed at. The staff was very friendly and helpful and free wi-fi could be had mostly throughout the hotel. I will definitely stay here again on future trips to Dublin.

This place got off on the right foot.... When my wife and I checked in, we found that we'd been upgraded to a suite at no extra charge! The suite was roomy and had everything we needed. No complaints there. The best feature of this hotel is its location. It's a couple blocks from the Temple Bar, but far enough removed that you don't have to hear the drunken ramblings once you've left. You're also very close to St. Stephen's Green, Grafton Street, Dublin Castle, O'Connell Street, and Trinity College. Really, the location is great for those that are trying to see as many sights as possible in just a couple days.... which we were. Recommend!

I'm so torn between giving this hotel 3 or 4 stars. There were a lot of very good things, and some bad things. First of all, let me mention that its number one asset is its location. You really can't get any better than this for being able to access Grafton St., Trinity, and St. Stephen's Green. Walking is really easy and there are tons of taxis waiting around the corner. The rooms are fairly spacious and are clean, so that's a major plus. The beds are comfy, too. Unfortunately, being in the middle of everything means high noise levels early into the morning, even on weeknights. Several night attractions closeby ensure that people chatting and yelling can be heard in your room. The other bad thing was the shower. It was hot and hotter, even scalding at times. There seemed to be no way to turn it down. The bath worked just fine, though, so I don't know if this was a plumbing error or something else. In the end, it's probably worth it to stay here. It's nice and in the middle of it all.
