The only place in dublin where they'll let you on the dancefloor with a battered sausage. And the only place in dublin where you'll be left with a battered sausage the next morning, if you hook up with one of the girls there

I've never been the biggest fan of the Czech Inn, but those guys from mainland Europe certainly seem to love it. I've been dragged there a few times by a bunch of French guys (which always makes life interesting) but it's not somewhere I'd head of my own accord. I don't know the name of it, but they serve a spirit (taken as a shot) that will knock your socks off... translation issues mean I will probably never know what it was, but I do know it was purple and lethal... so just ask for a shot of purple mank if you want to get your night off to a rocketing start. The overall vibe of the Czech Inn is a bit too much for me - loud blaring top 40s hits, huge screens displaying too many football matches and too many people screaming to hear each other above the roar. But there is a wide selection of European beers, so maybe try it during the day if you're a beer connoisseur?

Prior to it's renovation , I wouldn't have sent anyone near the place . That said I'm all for giving places a second chance, the area is much better laid out , brighter and altogether more welcoming. The menu has the classic favourites such as steaks , wings and chicken, along with a few more exotic options like schnitzel , Sauerkraut and calamari rings. I treated myself to the pork loin , with sauerkraut and Bohemian dumplings. Service was swift and friendly , and the meal itself was absolutely delicious , if not a little large on the portion size (still ate it all ) . The pork melted in the mouth , the sauerkraut was intense but very flavourful and balanced, the dumplings were the perfect texture and made short work of the sauce . I'll likely be back to try more of the exotic options.

You get a main course, for over €10, then you don't get any side at all. You have to order a side for extra, so the prices get jacked up. It ends up being expensive, it's mean and there's no reason for it in this day/age. Also there was a period that I'd try go there on Friday nights, EVERY table was reserved for the whole night.. Like a private club. So I'd go in for food, empty restaurant and be told I can't have food. It's a joke, they didn't even keep a single table free. I get that some parties sit all night, eating, drinking, but with 2/3 free tables you could get 12 covers in there; missing out on business at the same time. Be less mean with portions, stop reserving every single table.

One of the best hostels I've been to, and I've been to a few! Super clean and secure, convenient location , friendly and knowledgeable stuff, nice bar, and positive vibes. I visited this place years ago and i'm glad they are still doing well

Anyone who has read my reviews know that for me, it is all about the beer. Beer first, if there is food then that comes second. Otherwise it is down to atmosphere. Having spent a lot of time in Prague, I can honestly say that the Czech Inn is like a little taste of Prague, without making you believe you are actually there. I have only ever been there on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and it is usually a nice and relaxing atmosphere where I can sit and read a book or watch a game if there is one on. I can opt to read a complimentary newspaper if I like. Usually I will be quite happy with my beer though. Don't even think of going in there and ordering a Guinness or Heineken. It amounts to the same as going on holiday and spending all your time in a crappy Irish pub instead of going where the locals hang out and drinking what they drink. I advise anyone to try the beers from the Herold brewery. The dark is especially wonderful. Don't be put off by the colour, it is not a stout. It is a dark lager that is a little sweet, very malty with caramel and toffee dominating. A hint of coffee and fruitcake. Wonderful beer. The Semi-Dark is quite nice as is the Wheat Lager (blonde). The food? Traditional Czech fair meets Irish. This means if you can manage to finish a full meal, you are fairly impressive. A hock of bacon and a side of dumplings could feed 4 adults I reckon, and they expect one person to eat it! You will never go hungry in the Czech Inn!

Avoid downstairs on a Friday night - there's a live singer who shouts into the mic so unless you want your eardrums assaulted every time he destroys an Oasis song, venture on upstairs where there is a more pleasant, albeit uncharacteristic restaurant. Good selection of beer, bar staff a bit surly and there was a group of wide-eyed (!!!) Eastern Europeans in the corner table who sneaked out a bottle of Coke to top up their own glasses. Class.

When in Rome... The old adage should be kept in mind here, that is don't go in and order a Guinness. My Polish friend Goise took me here to sample some beer from her part of the world. She ordered a lot of beer and spirits to 'teach me about how they drink.' Dear Lord, I learnt my lesson thrice over. The place got suddenly really crazy around 8pm, which was a bit too much for me, it actually reminded me of the Irish pubs out in the Sunset area in San Francisco. Hard drinking stuff. I enjoyed it but I put that down to the fact that I was there with a 'local'.

The place may be cheesy, and by this I mean fried brie is pretty awesome, it may be crowded at times where it is hard to find a table, and in the middle of the week there may not be enough servers, but I like the place. I'm tired of 'pub food'; I'm tired of drinking the same thing night in and night out; I'm tired of just about everything with the pub culture in Ireland. The Czech Inn is a little bit of different in a city that specializes in only one thing; flat, flavorless food and beer. It's nice to have a bit of selection when it comes to things to drink, and I love the food menu there. The boar goulash is frickin awesome along with fried cheese, deer steaks, and a wide variety of beef dishes. This place is not recommended for non-dairy vegetarians, it just doesn't exist on the menu. The place is great for a medium-sized group that just want to eat, drink and chat. I went there for my birthday dinner and always have a good time there. With all that said, I've never been there at night. I generally don't go to places like this, that are so close to Temple Bar, at night because I like to be chill. Go in the afternoon or early evening and you'll have a good time.

The Czech Inn is one hilarious place, and a real guilty pleasure of mine thanks to the back to basics feel about it which really does remind me of my happy times in Eastern Europe...BUT THEY'VE CHANGED IT!! They've gone and had a complete refitting of the (larger) downstairs area and turned it into "Club C"...complete with cream faux-leather booths,Ikea-style white tables, weird dark red stained glass, huge (flashing!) photos of people dressed like New York gangsters and pumping eurotrance...yes, a real porno-dungeon feel - it's TERRIBLE. They've also stopped serving food down there. Upstairs, thank God, is still the same old homely and uncomplicated bar/restaurant with warm colours and a friendly atmosphere. I think my experience last night speaks volumes of the management's refitting catastrophe: at 9pm in the downstairs porno-dungeon I counted three people (on a Saturday - IN TEMPLE BAR) and then when I went upstairs, it was absolutely rammed (we actually chose to lean against the wall upstairs to enjoy the atmosphere rather than face the awkwardness of the cringeworthy "Club C"). The beer selection and prices are still the same thankfully, so if Eastern European pilsner in large quantities for fairly cheap prices is your cup of tea then the Czech Inn is still a winner (upstairs, that is!). If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
