We have walked past the pyramid so many times and never realised the cemetery was there. It is the final resting place of the famous English poet John Keats as well as many others from around the world who weren't Catholic.
It's difficult to say that a cemetery is beautiful, but this one really is, some of the inscriptions on the intricate headstones and sculptures is just inspiring.
Take the time to meander around, sit and take in the light coming through the trees while respecting the place for what it is.
Please leave a donation, it is free but well worth a few euros for the pleasure of such a tranquil area in a busy location.

Such an amazing place. Just in the shadow of the pyramid of cestius. Many notable people buried here. Along with some great tombstones and monuments. Such beautiful carving and workmanship. The varying tombstones make it a very eclectic showing. Well worth the visit bathrooms on site. Very clean. Small gift shop, and many graveyard cats to pet along the way.

A pleasant surprise, I wasn’t expecting much and it was a great visit. The atmosphere is calm and silence, there are some cats there but they are chillin by themselves. So much peace. Is 5 euros as a obligatory “donation”

I was looking for something different to do my last day in Rome and looked to see if there were any interesting cemeteries. I found this one and it was wonderful. It was a lovely day in late April, and the cemetery, with its cypress and pine trees, flowering plants, singing birds, and beautiful tombs, was the perfect get-away from the crowds of the most popular Rome sites. The cemetery isn't too large and the person at the gate (entrance is free but donations are suggested) was an American ex-pat when I was there. He was able to provide a lot of good information. The English poets Keats and Shelley are buried here. After seeing this cemetery for the first time, Shelley wrote, “It may make
one in love with death to know that one should be buried in so sweet a place." The cemetery is a very short walk from the Piramide metro station.
