Returned to this fantastic hotel after 20 odd years and it remains a byword for elegance and charm. Fantastic staff and lovely location. Only downside was the pool had very strong chemicals. Sea access from the gardens is really easy so wasn't a big deal for us.

We stayed for 3 nights for our honeymoon in May 2024 in a double room sea view with terrace.

Ants crawled through a hole in the wall of my room and were all over my clothing inside my luggage. My husband spent an hour removing every clothing item from my luggage to shake out the ants on the terrace. The hotel was not well maintained for this to occur as the ants had crawled up a level of the building and found a hole in the wall.

When we reported this, the hotel staff were not only rude but didn't do anything to make it right. The hotel staff said they would have moved our room, but the incident occurred on the day of checkout so this was pointless. They tried to blame me for eating which was strange because I wasn't eating and regardless, hotel guests are permitted to have food in their rooms. They did not offer anything more for the terrible experience with the ants. I left feeling humiliated, disappointed, and regretful of our stay.

Additionally, the mattresses are extremely hard and there are no blackout curtains.  The building is historical with a lot of echoes and slamming doors, so having comfortable beds and blackout curtains would be expected for the price point and 5 star rating.

Overall the hotel is not worth the money and I do not recommend it . We loved the city of Alghero and saw many four star hotels in the area that would have offered a better experience at a lower price. We stayed at a few hotels during our time in Sardinia and this hotel was our only bad experience.

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Quite, calm, clean, and very, very hospitable. Our room had a terrace (recommended) with some of the best views. The staff were great, and the spa was bliss.

This place has buckets of charm.  If you think of the furnishings as 'old fashioned' or complain about the air con or electrical sockets you are missing the point.  It is crammed with beautiful objects, the staff is wonderful and the place utterly professional.  The restaurant has limited choice (no meat), but what we ate was delicious. You can see why Elizabeth Taylor has stayed.  The indoor swimming pool is beautifully crafted, and as it is salt water there is no intrusive smell of chlorine.  Everything is spotlessly clean.  The location is dramatic.  Alghero is wonderful.  I would love to come again.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights! What a special place!!! Easy walk to old town. I felt like we were swept into another magical time staying at this hotel. Staff were so kind and lovely. Highly recommend!
