We stayed for three nights in the Grand Hotel Ortigia. This place is the incarnation of the classical Grand Hotel. It starts with having your luggage brought to your room, the car parked and a smooth and fast check in. The interior of the hotel breathes classical charm. It is true, most of the interior and the furniture is not new, but this makes for the charm of the place. In our room everything worked just fine as everything is quite obviously well maintained. Yes, nowadays one would furnish the room in a different way - but many of the modern hotels lack character. This house has it, in abundance.
Breakfast is being served in the rooftop restaurant and has really everything one could wish for. Freshly made smoothies can be ordered, eggs in all sorts and variations as well. The buffet offers a wide variety of further breakfast foods. The waiters are friendly and efficient and do - for those who really need it - not only speak English and Italian. The staff in any case is one of the strong points of this house, so is the size and practically of the rooms and, of course, the location. Booking a room vie sea view is certainly money well spent. The wellness area is not huge, but offers great, relaxing massages, Turkish baths and more. Parking is available at extra cost - but at least it is available which is a great asset given the location.
We really enjoyed our stay and will of course call again should we ever be in the area again. Keep it up, please.
If you decide to visit, do not miss the aperitivo in the late afternoon / early evening on the rooftop terrace. You will be rewarded with great views, outstanding service and the great choice of beverages Italy has to offer for this occasion.

We were here the first week in October 2024 & had a great time. The rooms were clean & comfortable. Slight inconvenience with the bed being in a loft (as was the bathroom) so that it was hot at night, & we had to go up a flight of stairs to use the toilet. The staff was uniformly friendly, helpful & accommodating. The hotel (built in 1890) is really beautiful, with marble floors, fabric wallpapers, original paintings, wood paneling, & antique furniture. The location is fabulous, with everything of interest in Ortigia within walking distance. We had a couples massage, which was very relaxing.  There is even a “Little Museum” of antiquities downstairs. The breakfast buffet was fabulous, with additional omelettes & dishes made to order included. All in all, this was a beautiful, luxurious hotel that brought me back to ages past, & we thoroughly enjoyed it.

For a Grand Hotel, this wasn't quite worth the Grand. Well located, by the port, but there are plenty of options near the Duomo, which is closer to the restaurants and other places of interest.
The decor is tired, the fittings tired, the room we were allocated had a bed on a mezzanine floor with no bathroom adjacent. I would  appreciate the charm of vintage, but for the luxe price tag, you could do a lot better in terms of comfort and lifestyle.
There was nothing grand about our room. You had to come down a flight of stairs at night, which is not recommended for an older couple.
It was hot at night, with no windows in the mezzanine. We left the windows downstairs open for some air. And we were here end December!
Cannot imagine how one would suffer it in summer.
The breakfast was average, I would say, the saving grace was the location, on the terrace. Don't expect fluffy omelettes or fancy poached eggs. My son ordered poached eggs and got exactly one poached egg, dressed with some scanty cabbage on his plate.
Again, not worth the luxe price tag.

Not a 5 star hotel. Great location and generally nice stay but far from a 5 star stay; didn't have an iron to provide, main doors were broken and had to be manually slid open, only elevator was broken one morning...

The rest of the experience was akin to a good 4 star experience.
