This is our second visit to Susafa and it’s every bit as good as it was the last time, 5 years ago!
Very friendly, very attentive staff, lovely relaxing rooms and public spaces including the gardens and swimming pool.
Most of the main open public areas have views over the surrounding countryside and the only noise you hear is the local fauna.. birds and goats mostly! 😁
The food is all locally grown and superbly prepared and/or cooked…
You can just relax all day or go out and visit whatever local sites take your fancy.. the road into Susafa is… interesting… but that is part of its charm!
We love it and will be back in another 5 years.. if not sooner!!

This is a luxury working farm, and a piece of Sicilian history. If you have the good fortune to drive here in middle of the countryside with wild horses on the road. You will be blessed.So much attention to detail in every step you take.The staff was friendly and welcoming , it is not the Pullman in Paris so keep that in mind ,it is a working farm with lovely accommodations. The food at dinner was clean ,healthy , satisfying and delicious but small portions. The breakfast was by far the best breakfast of any hotel that I have stayed in the world. The chef was there to cook your farm fresh eggs any style you desired, Everything was local and super fresh, such as  -nuts, fresh produce to juice, cakes, tarts, croissants, meats and beautiful local cheeses ,home made butter, home made breads & cookies, fresh made yogurt , it goes on and on everything made on sight or close by local. The hotel is quite maybe to quite, needs music by pool for my taste.I felt very special to be able to be part of history staying in this labor of love in the resurrection of this family farm. They loan you a small book to read in your room , the story & history & significance of this beautiful place in Sicily the book is written by the owner.The rooms are cozy and decorated so beautiful clean lines. The bar room a converted working room was magnificent, comfortable with a large fireplace . I could have spent days in this room. With the fire going. But sadly my  only complaint is that the owners beautiful dog Bruno is able to run freely and greet people , which is great but there are two very sweet dogs that are locked in a small caged area, not the best conditions . No shade in the hot sun with a "tiny" dog house for one dog ,not suitable for hot summer heat nor winter. They are not taken out for walks and they look at you with please pet me and get me out of here. They do not bark when you say hello
to

from the high wall above ,they just want attention and love !  This was so upsetting. That the owners could be so cruel. I know it is Sicily  things are different here, but the owners are educated, well read and traveled people. I was shocked how these dogs were kept.
This ruined my lovely stay at this magnificent working farm. I would have gave them 5 stars but gave them 4 because of the dogs .

We stayed here for 8 nights for our honeymoon and even though we had a wonderful time, there were some details that could have been better for our experience.

Theres one thing that definitely marked our experience negatively. The owner’s dog, Bruno, is very well cared for, but very sadly, Bruno’s two puppies are kept in deplorable conditions, under the sun all day, in a dirty area and very neglected.

Overall a beautiful hotel with positive and negative things.

Positive:
The service from Martha, Ita, Francesca, Giuseppe, and Michaela was excellent—always helpful, kind, and professional. The property itself is beautiful, offering a peaceful, rustic yet upscale atmosphere with stunning landscapes.

Room:
Clean, spacious and very comfortable.  The fact that they don't have a minibar is very negative.

Food and Drinks
The location is remote, so you naturally have very limited food options. Breakfast is top-notch with plenty of options and fresh food. While the €30 lunch buffet is consistent with 1 pasta option and different salads and small veggie plates, it lacks protein options that you expect with the price range and barely any variety from day to day. On our last day, I mentioned to a waitress that I was tired of the same menu, and she kindly offered to make me pesto pasta, which was a very nice gesture.
Dinner is interesting, with some nice options and a tasting menu. The portions are particularly small-You could say that the size of the main dishes is appetizer-sized

The wine dispenser is a highlight, allowing you to sample options before ordering, though the glass pours are also noticeably small, till the point we thought the dispenser wasn’t working properly when we saw the pour.

Other:
While it’s common for upscale places to offer honeymoon perks, none were provided here. Although the hotel is adults-only, the owner’s children were at the pool one day during our stay.

Beautiful location! Perfect for a relaxing time. The common areas are incredible, with beautiful terraces and salons with a fireplace. Road difficult to drive in, so you won't be able to go out for dinner and it's not easy to reach

We stayed here for two nights at the end of our Sicilian honeymoon road trip. First, the property and the design are immaculate. It's very tranquil and peaceful. The food is absolutely amazing. However, when you put a lot of time and money into big trips, you do have a standard for your time and want a fair value for the price.

At a certain price point, you will attract a specific clientele who will always have standards and expectations. Some of what we observed would have greatly changed our experience and really simply just would have met our standards.

- Bartending staff, anywhere on on the property. We simply do not understand why at this level of a star rating and price point it was a make your own drinks at the price point of if there was a service staff. We could tell this bothered many guests and yet, we all tried to make light of this situation. When you are on vacation, you want to simply chat with a bartender and order your drink to relax.

- Improvements to amenities. At the outdoor bar (another self service situation), none of the staff maintained the cleanliness or refilled the water. Which left quite a mess with a lot of flies. Personally, we love rustic eco stays and commonly stay at them. Yet, we've never experienced this before. Filth and bugs due to lack of just upkeep throughout the day for the guests. This felt like a major lack of attention for a very well used amenity for all guests.

- The rooms are quite nice. We actually felt the bed and pillows were our favorite of our whole trip. However, again at a certain price point I do expect robes/slippers to be standard. We also felt the lack of coasters was unusual. Lastly, the rooms are not appropriately labeled based on common standards.

- The grounds and pool deck could be drastically better maintained. It was as if the pool deck hadn't been swept in weeks (which should really happen every morning) or cleaned of bird poop all summer (which given the surroundings is expected, but it was an aggressive amount). Additionally, there were quite a few broken tiles. Again, at this price point - there is an expectation.

- We loved our private waiter for our romance dinner, he was so kind and sweet. Very genuine. However, all the staff are exchange from another country and it does not seem they have appropriate training and are lacking direction. They way they communicated when we would order a snack or requested our breakfast to go (we had an early flight) was just not the response of a "Small Luxury Hotel" property.

- We also would have wished more effort was put into the experiences. For example, no time was given for our private dinner. After we essentially had to prove they had the wrong date down. There also were no special touches and simply lighting the few lanterns on the terrace would have been enough for us. I do not have the expectation of any upgrades for a honeymoon, but I do expect what I pay for. We also never got our "Welcome Drink," because we arrived 30 minutes before our room was ready and lunch was out. Where we were asked to mark down our drinks.

- Lastly, Susafa states they are in a drought location. Understandable, but as someone who lives and grew up in a drought state, you don't water the lawn at the heat of the day at 3pm. This however, only bothered us because there are multiple signages requesting guests be concerned about their water usage and even turn off the shower while lathering with soap to conserve water.

Overall, the property is beautiful. However, these small minor adjustments would justify the title this hotel claims as a luxury hotel. For such beautiful property with such amazing potential, we were just so saddened.

My suggestion would be to not skip a stay, but consider the most affordable room and only stay if it's not a stretch in your accommodation budget. There are a lot of really wonderful eco Agritourism stays in Sicily worthy of your time and money, for a lot less. We did love our time here, but overall would not stay again.
