The Hotel is literally only a Hotel for couples who want to getaway together. Because what do you mean no separate bedrooms, just on the same bed or double bed? As a 30yo I’m not sleeping with my parent, this’s clearly a 2STAR hotel at best. The rooms could be bigger, but they choose to make them smaller for more guests to arrive so! Do what you will with that information.

Our experience at this hotel was quite disappointing. The stairs were extremely steep and difficult to use, especially with luggage—definitely not safe for kids or families.

What made it worse was the lack of support from the reception staff. At check-out (11:00 AM), I asked the lady at the front desk for help bringing my luggage down. I had my baby with me and couldn’t leave them alone in the lobby, and managing the luggage on those stairs alone wasn’t possible. She refused to assist and said if I left the luggage in the room until my husband arrived, I’d be charged for late check-out. There was no understanding or flexibility at all.

On top of that, if you have a car, be warned: there’s absolutely no place to park even for a few minutes to load or unload luggage. It’s really inconvenient and adds a lot of unnecessary stress.

Overall, not family-friendly, poor customer service, and definitely not practical if you’re traveling by car.

I love this hotel, which must be one of Amsterdam’s best kept secrets. I stayed in 207, with its beautiful view of the canal. The room was huge and, like the rest of the hotel interior, aesthetically pleasing, with beautifully patterned carpeting and exquisite floral arrangements. I loved the in-room espresso machine — every hotel room should come with one! Lastly, the staff was kind, friendly, attentive. I think the only reason the hotel charges such a comparatively cheaper price is because of its situation in an old canal house, with no lift and very steep, narrow stairs. For this reason, I can’t recommend it to less able-bodied travelers or those with extremely heavy/large luggage. But for the rest of us, I don’t think you can get much better than this at these prices! I hope to stay here now whenever I come to Amsterdam.

For the price and location, it’s a great deal. Hospitable staff who are willing to help with any questions you may have.

Before booking a room, please consider the steep stairs and the building's lack of elevators.

Ah, Hotel Amstelzicht—where the charm of Amsterdam meets the soothing sounds of urban chaos. Let’s start with the positives: the staff were an absolute dream, radiating warmth and hospitality that almost distracted from the rest of the experience. Almost.

Our room? Oh, it had character. Overlooking a bustling alleyway, we were treated to a masterclass in late-night acoustics, featuring the harmonious clanging of bottles, the melodic scraping of dustbins, and the dulcet tones of an Irish pub’s greatest hits playlist. Sleep? Who needs it when you’ve got this vibrant soundtrack?

And as if that wasn’t enough, the ceiling added its own flair to the ambiance. Every movement from the room above was amplified with the precision of a concert hall, ensuring that we were fully immersed in the rhythmic stomping of our upstairs neighbors. It’s like they were performing a private tap-dancing recital just for us!

For those who dream of staying in a place where rest is optional and noise is mandatory, Hotel Amstelzicht is calling your name. Pack your earplugs and a sense of humor—you’ll need both.
