Cute boutique hotel in the Jordaan area of Amsterdam. It is on quieter street, but still walkable to most destinations within a ~15 minute radius and free from tourist crowds (which was nice).

Rooms were adequately sized (we were in the junior suite) - the washrooms were compartmentalized and spacious, definitely the highlight of this room, suitable for 2 people to use at the same time with separate areas.

Room itself was quaint and reasonable for European hotel rooms , cute window w/ street view. Only comment is it lacked a closet or closet space for luggage.

Reception and public areas were well decorated, and house keeping attended to every request quickly.

Overall a great hotel to choose when in Amsterdam!

Having seen the reviews we were very optimistic. On arrival it was difficult to gain entry. It said press the bell which wasn’t evident. A blue light on the wall didn’t seem to do anything. We managed to get in as someone else was coming out. Looking around in the entrance we thought perhaps we had to go to the bar as there was no reception. After a minute or so, a man on a laptop at a high table said hello. There was no obvious welcome. I said we have a reservation and he said ‘can I see your identification’. It wasn’t very welcoming. The room was tiny, there is no minibar (I couldn’t believe this) and I am diabetic so always use one. The window has the handle removed so you can’t open it for any air. It’s warm and the control panel doesn’t change anything. The shower has a glass door so there is no privacy which was very awkward it was quiet though and the bar looked nice although we didn’t have breakfast because it was €22.

Fantastic location, only a 30 second walk to the famous canals. The staff are super friendly & accommodate to your needs. The hotel rooms give a gorgeous European vibe & are the perfect size for those staying for a city break.
Big thank you to Leonardo the chef who was extremely kind and made fantastic omelettes, waffles, pancakes and more!!

Hotel Mercier: The epitome of  Dishonesty

Traveling extensively across Europe, we have stayed in accommodations of all kinds, from five-star luxury hotels to budget-friendly stays. Rarely have we encountered a hotel as blatantly dishonest as Hotel Mercier.

First, the false advertising. We paid extra for a deluxe room, expecting a higher level of comfort. Instead, we were placed in a motel-style room outside the main hotel, with no privacy, as anyone passing by could see directly inside. This was not remotely the deluxe experience we were led to believe we were booking. When I raised this issue with the staff, I was told the hotel was fully booked and that we could not be moved until the next day, an important fact that should have been disclosed before check-in.

Then, the deception went even further. Unfortunately, that night, my husband became seriously ill, and we had to cut our trip short and fly home to New York a day early. At checkout, I spoke with Lazlo at the front desk, who clearly assured me that we would not be charged for the unused night as long as Hotels.com waived their cancellation fee. Wanting to confirm, I immediately contacted Hotels.com, and they agreed to process the refund, provided the hotel honored their commitment.

But after we checked out, Hotel Mercier flatly denied this agreement, both to us and to Hotels.com. Hotels.com has confirmed multiple times that they were fully willing to issue the refund if the hotel simply honored their word. Instead of taking responsibility for their employee’s promise, the hotel lied, repeatedly claiming that Hotels.com would not process the refund when in reality, it was the hotel itself blocking it. When confronted, the hotel dismissed the situation entirely, claiming Lazlo had made a mistake, as if that somehow absolves them of accountability.

This is not just poor service. This is a hotel that routinely deceives its guests. They mislead people into booking rooms that do not match their advertised descriptions, and when their employees make a commitment to a guest, they refuse to honor it. A reputable hotel stands by its word. A dishonest one shifts blame, lies, and hopes you will just give up.

Between the false advertising of their rooms and the deliberate dishonesty regarding our refund, Hotel Mercier has made one thing clear: they cannot be trusted. There are plenty of wonderful hotels in Amsterdam that operate with transparency and integrity. This is not one of them.

Wow, what an incredible place to stay. I absolutely loved our days at Hotel Mercier. The place is gorgeous from the second you walk in and the rooms are cozy and spacious. We had an interior room and even with the lack of view we loved it. The bed was the most comfortable I’ve slept on in Europe.

The staff was so helpful and the bar was very nice. Additionally we loved the location and spent most of our drip exploring the Jordaan and all there is to do in the neighborhoods surrounding the hotel.

Thanks Hotel Mercier for being the best place we stayed on our engagement trip! We’ll definitely be back!
