I think it was worth seeing but it definitely wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be. Most of the exhibition space wasn't really related to the subject matter. Was expecting a lot more history on the Dutch shipping and various ships. The jetty outside was quite nice and being able to go inside the old ship was really interesting.

The cafeteria was surprisingly good with really good apple pie. Prices were also quite reasonable.

Wonderful place to visit. A lot of variety. Temporary expositions, the ship (the Amsterdam) really gives you an idea about who life aboard one of these ships was, some fixed expositions about for instance the whale hunt... Very professionally organised, good audio guide. We really enjoyed our visit here. Not too crowded either.

I recently visited the **Maritime Museum in Amsterdam**, and it was an amazing experience. One of the highlights was stepping inside the replica of an old ship, which made me feel like I was truly transported back in time. The level of detail inside the boat was incredible, and it gave a real sense of what life at sea might have been like. Another standout was seeing the royal boat that was used by the queen – it’s beautifully preserved and full of history. The museum is packed with fascinating exhibits and interactive displays. If you're into maritime history, it's definitely a must-visit!

There is quite a lot to see here, including a full scale replica of the sailing ship Amsterdam.

The museum is 3 floors high, but both stairs and elevator are available. It is also wheelchair accessible.

Many models and displays on multiple floors.

As an American, very much appreciated the way displays and signs told the honest truth about the evils of slavery. The VOC (Dutch East India Trading Co) transported slaves on a regular basis. Signs next to various exhibits told the truth of what took place and did not try to hide that history.

Very much enjoyed the museum.

We attended a wedding reception at the Maritime Museum and had a wonderful experience with all staff, and the catered food was top notch!  The servers were very professional, fast, and friendly. They already know we wanted alcohol-free drink options and had them ready. The 3 course museum meal was well timed, delicious, and the server we had, Josephine, seemed to anticipate our every request.  We saw other servers doing the same for all tables.  If I were getting married in Amsterdam this would be the place.
We also got a chance to see the museum and very much enjoyed the exhibits and excellent curated cards with explanations and background, giving a much needed and excellent context.  An important museum and they made the important very interesting.
