The hotel is hell. We were kicked out to the street in the middle of the night with our little kids (3, 3 and 4), and were accepted back for safety reasons when they saw they did risk our lives. Didn't get any acknowledgement by the owner for the shameful behavior.

We booked a room with 2 beds for 2 adults with 3 little kids. We usually have our 3 kids in one bed, they were only 3, 3 and 4 years old. The front desk welcomed us and prepared the extra bed, and we went downtown to grab food before restaurants were closed, it was around 11pm when we came back.
And when back, they changed their minds and said they cannot accommodate us 5, only 4. At 11pm. We were forced out, looking for hotels at midnight. No one had a place for us that late obviously.
We started to prepare to sleep in the car, but kids were too horrified about the situation. After a couple of hours of unsuccessful search, we came back and bagged the hotel to welcome us in the room. They saw the kids were in bad shape. The previous manager got replaced and mirically they changed their minds again, said it was all just a bad mistake, and let us in.

No apologies, no acknowledgement, no feedback from the owner since then. This tells a lot about what kind of owner this place has.

Michelin Restaurant Review -
Had a wonderful dining experience at the Karel V restaurant.  The flavor choices blended well . The service was attentive, professional, knowable and helpful. The various dishes always had beautiful presentation, textures and exquisite taste. The photos below tell the story. We will be back !

Hotel - beautiful room, Nicholas was very helpful and professional as we dealt with car breakdown issues, facilities are superior and the breakfast choices were a wonderful start to our day. We will return !

Amazing hotel and customer service! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Also you walk right outside the hotel into the city center, it is perfect!! The room was amazing and the pool and sauna were also great!!

Had an absolutely wonderful stay here. The grounds were so beautiful when the sun was out and it was really nice to walk around. I loved how closer we were to the train station, the mall and the city center. The room was amazing and great for two friends to share. Was also very quiet!!! The only time it was slightly noisy from outside was Saturday night, but that’s okay. During the week it was silent. We ordered room service one night and it was delicious! Would love to stay here again if we are ever in Utrecht again! Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos of the room because we were so tired when we first got in but it was very nice and spacious! We stayed in the Roman wing.

What a wonderful place to stay in Utrecht!

We'd reserved a table for an evening meal in the Brasserie and called from our delayed train to say we'd be running late. The very friendly person who answered offered to fix something for us to eat even after the restaurant closed. We chose to postpone our meal to another time but were impressed by the service on the phone.

Upon arriving a very attentive young man immediately took care of our luggage when we checked in - true five-star treatment not only on the phone but also in person. We decided to try the snacks available until late at the Bar & Lounge. It was a bit odd not to have a menu in English but the very friendly young waiter helped us with the Dutch terms and we ate our fill of delicious local tapas and enjoyed the beer brewed right on the site.   We're looking very much forward to a return then on time for a full meal.

When we checked in to our room, delicious birthday pralines and a sweet birthday card were waiting on the comfortable bed. The room in a newer building on the site, the Roman wing, was tastefully designed.

Breakfast was served in the beautiful main dining room of the Michelin restaurant, we felt at home with Silvia, the very friendly young lady from Tarragona, Spain, who served us wonderful cooked breakfast treats like delicious French Toast.

It was no problem leaving our luggage at reception and upon return and discovering that we had to print tickets for Dutch trains bought online didn't pose a problem for helpful reception staff, who printed out our train tickets for us. The  friendly young employee who recommended that we climb the steps up to the top of the Domtor for a bird's eye view of the city remembered us and asked how the view was. We admitted that we waited too long to book tickets that day, but now had yet another reason to return.

We're looking forward to test some of the other rooms in the main building, the Napoleonic wing, with wooden beams and sloping ceilings.

Regardless of the wing, the entire hotel was a joy to visit - superb service, beautiful surrounding, historic architecture, delicious food, and a fantastic location just ten minutes from the train station. And you can walk through the beautiful gardens through an old gate that opens up to Utrecht's delightful and thriving old city center.

PS We took the pralines home with us and then forget them in the fridge. But three weeks later they proved to be luscious, for us evidence that Dutch pralines are as good as the best Belgian ones ;)
