Literally the best museum I’ve ever been to. We got there around 12, and it closed at 4 and that was nowhere near enough time to see everything, so we have to come back. Such insane history that’s preserved here. We got a tour of the stave church and the guide was dressed in traditional clothing, it was so cool and informative. I would 100% recommend coming here.

I was super excited for this museum as I visited as simile one in Iceland and loved it! Only 3 stars though because in most of the house you couldn't go in. There was very little information in one side, or SO much in fontsize 5 and really exhausting to read. Would have loved for it to be a bit more interactive and visual appealing. All in all still a good place to get an idea about Norwegian cultural history.

A lovely museum even in the winter cold! The old church was a real highlight. Be careful in the ice if you have limited mobility or trainers on as it’s very hilly and the paths are not  all gritted. Don’t miss the relocated apartment building where you can see apartments from throughout time as the door was shut and it’s not obvious you can go in - it’s kind of hidden. This museum also had a very nice gift shop with lots of Norwegian made items and lots of stuff for children.

Really neat open air museum! To be able to see the variety of buildings from hundreds of years ago and be in amazing shape and technique building them is astonishing. In a world where we tear down buildings because it’s cheaper than trying to restore them to see such old buildings stand the test of time is a nice change of pace. Make sure you budget yourself enough time to properly visit. I do wish we could have gone in more of the buildings though.

It’s such a different experience than your regular museum visit.
I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by all the things there are to explore and how they added the life element by having actors too which in its way contributes to more senses, like smell!
I’d definitely recommend to go specially if combined with the farmers market.
