Apparently all great reviews for this hotel are from those who stayed in upgraded rooms. I stayed here for 4 nights for an academic conference and unfortunately my experience was mediocre. Staying at a standard double room, I was surprised to see how tiny the room was. There was barely enough space for 1 person and very little storage. The room overlooked a depressing parking lot between the buildings and when I asked the reception they said all standard doubles were the same. The furniture was old, dated and chipped everywhere. The bath towel had a huge red stain on it. There were no free amenities in the room, except for a tea and coffee packs (which were not replenished during my stay). The shampoo was so harsh like regular soap and the wall bottle was only a third filled. There was no body wash, hair conditioner, toiletries, slippers, or anything else that would usually be supplied at a 4 star hotel. Also there is no daily room cleaning while you stay, so what you get is akin to a tiny AirBnB room. On the plus side the hotel is centrally located and the bus stop is right in front. The breakfast was satisfactory and the staff seemed nice. Overall, for the high room rates they charge, it is a shame that customers are offered so little.

Lovely hotel, breakfast is good with wide variety of food. Afternoon 3-5pm have some light crepe.  Light dinner from 6pm.

Clarion Hotel Bergen Havnekonterot is a clean hotel with a cozy lobby (good when it is pouring outside and also has a great pianist in the afternoon).  The staff is superb and make the stay wonderful- the front desk staff, the really kind kitchen staff (who prepare insanely good breakfasts and dinners with so many options including veggie options), even those who clean the table after breakfast- literally everyone is so friendly- it truly made the stay memorable.  Love the view from the roof of the hotel also!

The Clarion Collection Hotel is centrally located, within walking distance of the entire historic wharf, and has a lovely clocktower available as a scenic lookout. The rooms are quite a tight fit if you have larger suitcases (in a retrofitted historic-building way) but manageable, and the dining is good. That said, for most tourists on a sightseeing schedule, it would be extremely helpful if breakfast was offered before 7:30 a.m. I also did not appreciate having to ask the front-desk clerk for coffee at 7 a.m. I watched her deal with admin and suitcase issues, then claw-grab two cups by the rim to serve me and my spouse. When I slipped over to the self-serve machine in the closed dining room to have a second cup, she chided me for doing so and told me I should have come to her at the desk for it. I did not wish to debate how unsanitary her service had been, but it was not the easiest way to start the morning, and 7 a.m. access to the self-serve would solve that.

This hotel is excellent. Service is excellent, room is squeaky clean and luxurious, and the food is very good. They serve you a buffet breakfast and dinner, all including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. My wife and I are very impressed with the Clarion Collection line. Be sure to head up to the tower if you can--it's beautiful around and after sunset. Bed are large enough for 6' 3" man + wife. We had a double bed, no smoking, the standard room they offer.
