We experienced a very interesting tour of this winery lasting approximately one and a half hours. The tour was packed with interesting information of the making, refining and storage of Port wine in general and specific info relating to Caves Ferreira and its history.  The history even highlighted what type of boats were used to carry the port on the Doura river.  The  tour initially was in a small museum with exhibits relating to Caves Ferreira. Then we went through large halls where the enormous barrels that hold thousands of litres of port wine were. This is all underground through dark tunnels showing the vintage port storage areas and equipment used to make the wine. One stand out fact was why the floor is made of 4 x 4 inch wood pieces. If the weather gets too hot, they are able to wet the entire floor and the wood absorbs the water which makes more humidity and cools down the area for the wine!
Our guide Anna was very friendly and able to answer any questions the group had.
As expected the tour ended with a sampling of 3 port wines, from a light white to a deep, dark ruby.
Wholeheartedly recommended and booking is essential.

It was a great tour with Anna and well worth what they charge for it. You get to tour the inside and understand all about wine making, their history which is worth knowing. Anna was generous with her time and spent over an hour talking about wine making. We also got to see how they store different kinds of wine, vintage room, etc.

It would have been nice if we had known earlier that we need to pre order cheese or chocolate with the tasting as we had to go buy chocolate after the tasting had started. That said, it was a positive experience overall and highly recommend it for anyone visiting Porto! Please book your slot in advance.

This was an afternoon very well spent. We learnt a lot about Port wine, its production and its different types. David, our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and did an amazing tour explaining the ins and outs of the Port production and the Ferreira Family. The visit was very interesting through the Caves and we ended with a wine taste of 3 different Port wines, a White, a Ruby and a Tawny.

It was a great tour with Miguel and well worth what they charge for it. You get to tour the inside and understand all about wine making, their history which is worth knowing.

There is a wealth of history in these caves and you learn a lot about the whole port making process.

We tasted 3 ports at the end and it's well worth the cost of the visit just for these 3 ports.  Please book your slot in advance and we did ours online which was easy.

My partner and I were suggested to wine taste at Ferreira from another winery. Short walk across the bridge (15minutes), but a nice view with the shops on left and on the right the river. We arrived around 10:30am, and no tastings were available for the day.

Receptionist was short in his replies and came off a little cold. I suggest booking through the website in advance.
