In November 2024, we visited this charming store and picked up some wonderful souvenirs, including Madeira sugarcane honey cake and cookies. The honey cake in the distinctive red box stood out—it’s baked using a traditional recipe and is exclusively available here. The store itself is impeccably maintained, with fascinating displays highlighting its 130-year-old history. This family-run business, now managed by the 5th generation, is truly a must-visit spot on your trip!

When we were visiting madeira, in funchal, while we were wandering around the street, we ended up getting into this street and found out this place which was  the oldest bakery in funchal and they still baking these biscuits with the same flavour and they feel proud about their product .

The lady that served us was the best in her business. She introduced us to most of the cookies and we were so convinced that we bought almost everything. We are not disappointed. Thanks for this wonderful service and cookies! Totally recommended!

The ticketing system isn't intuitive and the staff were rude, telling tourists off for not responding when they called their number in a language they didn't understand.

The staff were also very pushy with up selling and put a lot of pressure on the customer to decide what they want very quickly.

I would avoid the store, particularly if you are neurodivergent like me, as I found the experience very stressful.

The cookies were dry and kind of bland.

We only went there as we were doing a walking tour and it was on the way. We don’t eat gluten so just got in to see the place, bit then asked and they had three different gluten free options. They were very nice explaining us that they can’t rate them gluten free as they are all made in the same factory so there would be gluten traces for sure. So we took them under our own responsibility, a d they were delicious and completely fine.
