After researching the best opportunity to experience a Michelin restaurant, I came across Desarma and I am so pleased that we chose this restaurant over its competitors. The entire experience from start to finish was unforgettable - starting with the kind and helpful coordination from Emma, to the knowledgeable and very funny/straight-talking Danuzia who explained the connection of every single plate to the history of Madeira… we will never forget this meal. We chose the 6 course “armed with senses” which I would highly recommend. For us, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and it could not have been more perfect.

We enjoyed an amazing chef’s table experience at Desarma earlier this week. Great tasting menu with a focus on local produce, and a wine pairing with only Portuguese wines. Pretty certain Desarma are in line for a second Michelin star soon. ⭐️

Tasty Modern Portuguese Cuisine

Finally a restaurant on Madeira that looks good and tastes good.  We had a wonderful evening at Desarma.
Team was very friendly and everything was tasting delicious. They develop their menu with locally sourced ingredients and try to reduce waste in their cooking process.

We spent around 350pp with some good wine. We will definitely come back.

The only warning for guests with any food intolerance, allergies or  religious diets: The chefs table doesn’t accommodate any of those requests.

Desarma offers a fixed 9 course tasing menu that is pleasantly consistent throughout all courses. It builds up the Madeiran flavours step by step using fine techniques and balanced composition of dishes - no one flavor is overpowering, rather they work well with each other. I definitely recommend having the wine pairing that focuses both on Maderian wines as well wines from the mainland. The food and wine work super well together and elevate the whole experience.

The best thing about travel is the ability to try local foods. What puts that over the top is when it’s prepared by a chef who can take that food and create something memorable that you can savor while you’re having it but burn the memory of the experience into your mind. One of those chefs is Octávio Freitas at Restaurant Desarma. I experience a meal we won’t soon forget complete with herbs and produce we’ve never tried before. The service was exceptional and started with a warm greeting from Emma who checked in throughout the dinner to confirm we were enjoying our experience.
