Taberna Moderna was recommended by a travel guide. The concept is to share the dishes. As we were not really used to this, the restaurant gave us all our food per person which was really nice.

The food was exceptional. I had the Burrata with tomato salad and the tomatoes were one of the best I ever ate. But also the meat and fish dishes were really really delicious. Unfortunately it was our last evening in Lisbon, otherwise we would’ve reserved for the following evening again.

Gorgeous place, though we thought it was closed when we went but we pushed the door and it was open. Black rice is my favorite Spanish dish and I was so hopeful to like it and I loved it. It was so flavorful and delicious. The tuna with sesame was so delicious and great to soak the broth with bread. The staff was nice and explained the ingredients. The like sorbet was great to break up the cream of the rice.

Taberna Moderna serves us without compromise for more than 15 years as it is the rare restaurant with it all: delicious food and a good wine selection at fair prices with excellent personal service (Miguel is a true treat!!) in a beautiful ambiance filled with outstanding contemporary art, all of this in downtown Lisbon with an outdoor terrace on the square for the gin aperitivo from their extensive gin bar; it is a party when you need it and a romantic corner, when desired.

We were two for dinner and started with the most tasty peixinhos da horta on the terrace, a couvert. a deliciously braised fresh tuna for starters, the most tender octopus fillet for mains, with a delightful chilli sauce, and to top it the pennacota, all shared with waters, a rose and a coffee for €45/pax which is a steal at such quality!

This was my best food experience in Portugal in four months I lived here. Great food, extremely creative and diverse. Black rice with cuttlefish is a must! Portuguese claim they have good meat, I am sorry but they need to try the meat here before they even begin to talk.  To top it off, the cheesecake rocked my world.  Very fair prices for everything we tried. Thank you!

The duck was incredible!!! Also they had fresh tomatoes with olive oil to start.
