Hotellet rekommenderade detta och 2 andra på gatan. Vi ville ha någonstans tyst utan att behöva stå utanför som massor av platser i gamla stan. Detta var nära katedralen och vi var mycket nöjda med vårt tapas urval och glas vin tittar på lokalbefolkningen kommer och går. Tortillan var lite långsam att komma fram men de bad om ursäkt för detta. Min kom fortfarande varm! Vi fann tjänsten mycket trevlig. Jag är glad att jag inte blev avskräckt av tidigare recensioner. Det finns massor av bra ställen att äta i denna stad där upptagen personal kan fortfarande uppbåda ett leende för kunderna trots att de rusas av fötterna tyvärr detta är inte en av dem. Jag kan inte minnas att jag någonsin ätit i en så fientlig atmosfär en yngre servitris var ganska likgiltig för mig själv och min fru och kunde knappt bry sig om att ta emot vår beställning men den äldre servitrisen som verkade vara någon form av golvchef var direkt fientlig, oförskämd och knorrande. Vi var artig och respektfull så vi kan inte ta hennes attityd personligen som det måste vara hur hon behandlar alla icke-lokalbefolkningen och hon verkade gärna utvidga bonhomie till de många lokalbefolkningen som äter där. Jag kan förstå att folk känner sig lite överväldigade av besökare eftersom staden var mycket upptagen men det kan vara bäst att sätta upp en skylt som säger "Endast lokalbefolkningen" då folk kan spendera sin tid och pengar på ett mer välkomnande ställe.

Receptionisten på vårt hotell föreslog här som en plats att äta en måltid som vi hade fått vårt lystmäte av pintchos. Vi blev inte besvikna. Det var några lokala familjer och tanter som åt whiskey var ett gott tecken. Vi valde att dela några kronärtskockor följt av confit torsk med potatis. Båda rätterna var utmärkta. Personalen var vänlig och hjälpsam.

Först av allt tack, Sansse, för att boka oss ett bord på en hektisk lördag kväll med mycket kort varsel (och tack receptionen på Hotel Zinema 7 för rekommendationen och göra bokningen). Maten här är verkligen mycket bra! Vi hade en enorm (tillräckligt för två) färsk tomatsallad med tonfisk, sedan grillad röd tonfisk - den BÄSTA vi någonsin ätit... så mör och vackert tillagad och långsam - kokt revben av nötkött. Efterrätten var utmärkt hemlagad cheesecake och glass (och en hemlagad galette? . . och tack och lov hade vi en 20 minuters promenad hem! ) Rioja var bra och mycket prisvärt. Servicen var varm och vänlig - och inte alls långsam för en lördag kväll. Det var en trevlig atmosfär också. . . och Euro 24 på TV:n! Om jag har en kritik så är det att det inte finns något engelskt alternativ på hemsidan. Jag vet att vi satt ner för middag men pintxos och baskiska avsmakningsmenyn såg fantastisk ut. De kanske inte finns vid matborden men ett alternativ att välja kan vara till hjälp. Förutom det - tack, killar. Vi ses nästa gång.

På en plats där rykte är allt vi blev otur och gick in här som vi hade en 10 pm buss tillbaka till Bilbao. Kalvkinnarna var genomsnittliga och murgröna över salt och medioker - chips var bra och vinet billigt. Vi lämnade innan pudding.
