A beautiful restaurant.
The food (Fukuroi menu) was to die for, everything was of very high quality and presented and explained with much love and patience. The staff were incredibly friendly and courteous. My son and I felt very welcome. Highly recommended. We will definitely return to Barcelona and dine at Carlota Akaneya, we are already looking forward to it.

I’ve been twice in about 10 years (as special occasions), same beautiful atmosphere, food was incredibly tasty (with a single exception, but more on that later), service was super accommodating and attentive and everything was explained in detail. It is an experience, where you eat at your own pace, while cooking over coal grills!

The main attraction was Matsusaka’s beef, one of the few restaurants that is allowed to import it for their clients. It is amazing, nothing like it. Superbly tender, it just melts in your mouth. But for the price and cut type it better be that!

The only disappointing thing was one of the desserts, but I feel it’s more of a seasonal thing than anything and probably cultural factors might have something to do with their appreciation. The Crown melon, which is beautiful with it’s deep green hue, it has very very mild and subtle taste, and felt like it could be better (but then again they don’t have control on how it will taste).

All in all, I would gladly go there everyday to have dinner, but I can’t really afford that.

Note:
- It only opens for dinner, two turns of 2:30h
- has two set menus only (96€ & 136€ if I recall correctly), usually busy enough to need a reservation
- it is mainly a meat restaurant (don't expect vegetarian/vegan dishes)
- there's no indication of ingredients for special diets (gluten-free, allergies, etc)
- no accessibility features taken into account, but the location and size of the restaurant makes it pretty hard to accommodate. Wheelchairs could enter, but the entrance is pretty narrow and might prove problematic.

Unique experience. Real traditional Japanese cuisine in a tiny wooden restaurant where every course is just amazing. Worth every Euro for a once in a while experience. Will come back!

I booked a table at this restaurant  before arriving in Barcelona. I was captivated by the idea of ​​being able to have a beef experience similar to the one in Japan in regard to services and beef quality. I opted for the Fukuroi menu. Right from the entrance, I was pleasantly surprised by the hostess dressed in traditional kimono and by the fact that we were offered wet and warm towels to wipe our hands. Then I experienced the excitement of discovering each dish. We chose to come back after a few days. High quality of the dishes for both experiences. We were really impressed by the impeccable service on the first visit, but the service was not that attentive during our second visit. I think it was a different shift, with new employees, slightly inattentive and a little confused: the grill was placed upside down, the explanations of the dishes were very quick, the meat was cut differently and the Fukuroi was not presented at the table before serving it.
I liked that they adjusted the menu according to intolerances - no spices and no pork.

We went there for a lunch and absolutely loved it. We took the "shorter" menu, but we left super happy and very full. High-quality meats that you grill directly at the table, nice gyozas, a rich soup, a spectacular nigiri where you can watch the preparation, and super nice and original desserts. The service was very attentive and friendly- we definitely recommend it!
