El Mercado de San Fernando is my favourite market hall in Madrid. Relaxed atmosphere, easy-going people, essence of the atmosphere of Lavapies.
And most importantly, in the very centre of the main floor, I have found my place, el Guaje. A fantastic place making a difference with their attention to people, details and with great selection of tapas. And a very generous hand when pouring drinks 😜
What's important nowadays, they consistently meet, and exceed, the security measures put in place by the covid pandemic.
My place to relax after a full day.

Nos encanta este lugar!
We are Londoners visiting Madrid. We loved this place. We went twice, two nights in a row. The guys who work there are so friendly and sweet. The atmosphere is brilliant and it's really affordable too. You get a free tapa for each round of drinks that you buy. This place just makes me feel that Madrid is a very special city. Definitely visit it if you like a local, unpretentious, friendly bar.

The tortilla (spanish omelet made of eggs, potatoes, and onions) was excellent.
We ordered a bottle of sour apple cider (contains alcohol) that was great.
This place is not suitable for a long stay.
We bought another couple of bottles to take with us, and their price was higher than the one we drank in place. Go figure...

This small bar and taparia is set in a mercado a little bit away from the tourist areas. Prices are way more reasonable, service is very pleasant and the atmosphere is more relaxed. Can definitely recommend!
