Madrileño 100% here, born and raised, and have always come back to this place.

Why? Because the service, quality of food, location and wine menu. I have NEVER been disappointed in this restaurant and every time I come to El Escorial I make sure I make a reservation here. Even though they don’t know who I am, they treat me always like a celebrity. And then it’s the menu, the quality of the food and the outstanding professionalism of the chef and the entire kitchen team. YES to Charoles, yes I will come back and don’t forget to get their wine card with the yearly rate for rioja wines. A perfect chest sheet I keep using over the past 15 years.

We visited Charolés Restaurant in June 2022 during our visit to El Escorial. Remember to make a reservation. We ordered traditional food, which was pretty well made and quality was on point. The terrace was perfect! Not too much sun although it was a crazy hot day!

The veal was as dry and uninspired as a sheet of cardboard, and the fish was watery and bland, offering no trace of the freshness you’d expect. The overall ambiance felt dated, as though the restaurant hasn’t evolved since the 1970s, leaving it out of step with modern expectations.

In a place brimming with cultural and historic allure, Charoles misses the mark entirely, offering neither the quality nor the experience to match its location. It’s a wasted opportunity in a setting that deserves so much more.
