We had a fantastic time here. Very friendly staff, great breakfast and an excellent restaurant as well (both an Asian Cuisine as well as traditional Swedish cuisine).

After staying there a night, it’s really obvious that Ocean Hotel is successfully cashing in on Sweden’s current tourism boom and the fact that the hotel is located on a beautiful beach just a few hundred meters from a famous luxury resort.

Charging SEK 4000 for a standard guest room was only acceptable thanks to the stunning sea view. To put this in context, the night we stayed at Ocean Hotel was more expensive than if we had checked in at Grand Hotel in Stockholm, arguably the gold standard for all of Scandinavia's luxury hotels.

We got in late in the afternoon and were provided a "last minute" rate just shy of SEK 3000 including breakfast for two. When we asked kindly to check out at 12:00 pm the following day, we were informed that 11:30 am would be okay but that we would be charged an extra fee after that.

We stay at about 25 hotels all over the world every year. Only rarely are we denied a polite request to check out a little later. Ocean Hotel gave us two lame explanations as to why we couldn’t do so: a) they were fully booked (but not according to booking.com) and b) that if they gave us the extra time, they would have to do so to all other guests.

In a past life, I taught hotel management at a hospitality college in Gothenburg. One of my lectures was focused on the importance of being flexible and not allowing a rigid policy to get in the way of meeting guests needs with the objective of making them feel at home and wanting them to return.

My overall impression of Ocean Hotel is that they are not  adequately focused on operations. The mostly unmanned reception, cleaning staff taking a break in guest areas, an elevator that feels like its about to fall apart between floors and a messy breakfast buffet are all tell-tale signs of an absent or at the very least lazy management team.

On a brighter note, we enjoyed a really tasty dinner in the restaurant where the service was as flawless as the view. Kudos to the extraordinarily friendly waitress that served us and the kitchen team that prepared our dishes. Here, food and price point felt were in sync.

Sadly, we never got a chance to try the hotel’s small gym, cute movie theatre, sauna, pool table or table tennis room. We did have a great run on the beach, though.

In summary, Ocean Hotel offers a pleasant, laid-back atmosphere in an excellent location. In my opinion, their price positioning isn’t reflected in the quality of service, or comfort and there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to being flexible about check out time.

Recommendable (do try to get better deal than their rack rate).

Great location, great restaurant! The restaurant has an excellent, creative cuisine. Both fish and meat dishes are excellent and the waitresses and waiter are superb. Good selection of beers. Try the local Falcon lager.

Prices are for people from more Southern European countries very high but not untypical for Sweden.

located on the beach so most of rooms have great sea view, in any case, it's jus a matter of seconds from the room to the seawater, out of season and with good weather - walking along the sandy beach is strongly recommended.
Breakfast was super, two restaurants just inside: asian and grill - should satisfy most, sauna and gym - all what's needed is here.
