I've been looking for a really good Indian restaurant in Stockholm since I arrived here a couple of months ago. I've tried a few and - spoiler alert - Shanti Classic wasn't it either: perhaps I simply spend too long in the Middle East & India. Don't get me wrong, the service was fine and the food wasn't bad either - if you like Indian food for Westerners. I had the Vegetarian Thali. It came with a salad, which occupied valuable "plate real estate" - the space it took up would have been better used for making the rice portion bigger. Also the bread we ordered with the food came way after our food arrived - a shame, because I would have liked to enjoy it with my thali. My wife had the Tamarind Chicken and liked it very much, so perhaps it's just this Gora who wasn't entirely satisfied. Maybe I should have picked a "sizzler" dish - they seemed very popular with other diners or maybe I should have simply requested to make the food a bit more desi theeka banana.

Fantastic thalis filled with interesting, delicious and varied food. Heated outdoor area meant we were fine eating out front on a fairly chilly evening. Great service, and a really nice house lager.

UPDATE (2018): this place truly deserves the good reviews. Their lunch hour specials are very affordable and you get a huge plate to satisfy your midday hunger. 99 SEK and a complete salad bar with generous sprouts of fresh spinach and red and green cabbage, achar chili pickles, coriander pesto and lots of sweet raita. There is also a hot vegetable soup and spiced tea and coffee. It's ridiculously cheap and delicious. And not to forget the mango lassi included in the lunch hour special.
I had a creamy lamb curry with cashewnuts. It tasted almost like butter, and the lamb was tender and the sauce sweet and nutty just like I like it. It truly does deserve 5 stars. Well done!

2013: It was much better back in 2002, when the meals tasted better and it was cheaper. Today, there are other (South) Indian restaurants at affordable prices.
But somehow, I go back here for an unknown reason. 3 stars.

Fantastic food! (if you like Indian).
Good quality but not cheap but then eating out isn't cheap in Sweden.
I'd say this was definitely worth the money though.
Bohemian, eclectic and random antique style that somehow works in creating a nice atmosphere.
Efficient staff.
Overall experience leave you feeling satisfied.
