We chose the tasting menu with premium ingredients. We were not disappointed.
A very creative cuisine that delivers balanced flavors and textures.

The service was attentive but invisible: quite rare to experience!

Giving 4 ⭐️ for the food because (1) the lobster tail was overcooked and (2) some of the rice with the eggplant was a bit mushy.

Fabulous place, and unlike a traditional Gaijin, there are many vegetarian dishes. We had a vegetarian and regular menu, all courses were really good, though it was kind of too much for us, wouldn’t harm to reduce the quantity. We also felt the price is really fair, both for the menu and the wine. Service was ok, little bit unstructured, but very friendly and approachable. I would recommend this restaurant.

Had a fantastic experience at Gaijin Izakaya! We went for the chef’s set menu (omakase), and it was the perfect amount of food—enough to enjoy every dish without feeling overwhelmed. The flavors were great, and the yuzu cake at the end was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend!

We had reservations at 8 and got seated right away. We did Omakase the more expensive one. Every course was explained what you were about to eat. The only thing we didn’t care for were the brussel sprouts and the dessert didn’t feel like it was creative. It felt like it didn’t match the cuisine but overall a good experience.

There is some serious umami magic going on here.
Exquisite food that hits all the right notes.
Folks are right - every single dish was so satisfying on its own. We went a la carte, as we knew what we wanted to try.
Duck, sea bass, brussel sprouts, Wagyu black gold meatballs, garlic rice, mushrooms, finished with matcha tiramisu.
Good portion sizes, and I left feeling so full and deeply satisfied. We ordered 6 tapas + dessert + sake for 2 folks - 160 CHF (very fair for a Michelin place in Zurich city!)

Chill vibe, extremely on point and friendly service, everyone was working with a smile and looking like they love what they do - unveiling umami magic to peoples' palates.
What a gem! Thank you to all the folks behind Gaijin bringing such a good experience to life.
