Beautiful and well maintained graveyard with many great stories around different tombstone 🪦
A must visit for Harry Potter fans to see and hear about some of the fascinating stories of characters from the Harry Potter series!
The graveyard is not very big so it doesn't take too long to walk through in detail roughly about 30 - 45 minutes but the ground gets very muddy on the wet day so go prepared with good shoes.

Old, famous cemetery in the downtown area.  It is absolutely worth a visit. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained.  This cemetery holds the remains of over 100,000 people, yet there are only 700 headstones.

For Harry Potter fans, this cemetery was the inspiration for JK Rowling - the real Sirius Black, Robert Potter, and Tom Riddle are buried here.

While lovely to visit during the day, I recommend you take one of the graveyard night tours.  They take you in to areas that are normally locked up and tell wonderful stories about some of graves and crypts.  Well worth the price!

Add to that gothic tombs, Scotlands worst poet, the covenanters imprisonment, and body snatching during the early 1800s, you have a great cemetery to visit.
Putting aside all the history, you also get some great architectural views of the surrounding buildings.
The cemetery is free to enter. It was well kept and had easy to follow paths.
The paths at the cemetery are uneven. With care, it is possible to access the cemetery if you use a wheelchair or have mobility issues.
