Referred by Iustina & Genny at the Market St. Hotel and wow, did they hit a home run here.

With last minute reservations on a Friday night we were seated in the main dining area with a view of the castle.

Our candle lit dinner consisted of leek & carrot soup and pork belly/black pudding plate for appetizers.

The main dishes were Grilled Venison and Cod.

All of the above were rich with accompaniments in copious quantities.

The presentation was classy yet not complicated. The taste was wonderful. Service was excellent.

We finished off our culinary adventure with Chocolate/Orange  Paze (like mousse) and Baked Fig. Both sinfully rich and way too much sugar for me. So we cleaned the plates and will pay tomorrow.

Fantastic. We had an amazing seat next to the window and had a view of Edinburgh castle! Staff were attentive and so friendly. The interior is candle lit and very ambient, lovely place for a date night. I would really recommend this restaurant if you are unsure of here to eat during your visit to the city. We had the venison which was lovely and the el pinto wine.

Had a late lunch with business associates and we were pleasantly surprised with the food quality. The olives and the cheese plate were big hits! (We fell in love with the red storm cheese ❤️) the view is great. Had the fish stew and it was very interesting. Don't recommend the gnocchi dish... It was not like the Italian gnocchi we are used too, it was looking like an omelette cut in pieces 🫤)

Although it’s in the old town it was not very touristic. The food was very good and had a great vibe. Place was quite busy and loud but a lot of fun. If you can get a table but the window there is a great view of the castle especially at sunset. The food was very good and the bread and butter weren’t die for! We highly recommend for a casual dining.

Min fru hade röding - grillad fläskfilé och indikerade att det var utsökt. Mina sidor var helt enkelt pommes frites och hantverksbröd. Det fanns inga klagomål med sidorna Paras med en flaska rött vin var det en utmärkt måltid för priset. Skulle rekommendera reservationer och lite tålamod som Outsider verkar vara mycket populär.

Vi njöt av vår måltid här — maten var smakrik och intressant. Jag åt dagens soppa (som kom med bröd) och förrätten - stor risotto, och delade en sida av läckra socker snaps ärtor med min man och jag tyckte att det var perfekt mängd mat. Vår utsikt över slottet från restaurangerna övre nivå var härlig. Restaurangen var mycket upptagen. De verkar locka en hel del små till medelstora grupper, och vid tiden för vår 8 pm reservation köket var helt klart att få smäller. Som ett resultat, Servicen var mycket långsam. WOWZA! ! Vi hade en bra lunchupplevelse på The Outsider och rekommenderar starkt denna anläggning. Vi kunde sitta med utsikt över slottet som var trevligt, men inte en nödvändig touch att vara wow av denna restaurang. Allt här var klockrent från avstånden mellan borden, till Servicen, vinet och maten. Vår torsk var en speciell och var färsk och underbart tillagad så att fisken kunde skina. Vi rekommenderar att du beställer brödet. Vårt vin, som var en nära ut objekt, var utsökt och vi kände tur att få en flaska. Det enda vi beklagar är att vi inte bokade middag. En av de bästa måltiderna vi hade i Skottland och för vinälskare är vinlistan en humoristisk och njutbar must read!

Jag hittade The Outsider via sociala medier när jag forskade för min resa till Skottland och valde det för sin utmärkta lunch affär och positiva recensioner. Jag gjorde en bokning som du måste göra genom att ringa ungefär två veckor innan. Jag hade begärt en fönsterplats eftersom de har utsikt över Edinburgh Castle men de rådde detta inte var garanterat. När vi kom fram var bordet värden ville sitta oss vid fortfarande upptagen men han lyckades hitta oss ett annat bord på andra våningen med en perfekt utsikt över slottet. Servicen var snabb och måltiderna (biff frites och musslor) var utmärkt!

Ett återbesök efter många år, inte besviken! Personalen var alla mycket uppmärksam och hjälpsam och maten var utmärkt med ett undantag, min bakade plommonpudding hade mycket lite plommon i närvaro! Resten var dock mycket bra - Whitebait, Seitan, Havsöring, Moules Frites och en underbar 35 dagars lagrad Flat Iron Steak. Med tanke på detta var höjden av Edinburgh Festival med Oasis i stan också vi trodde att vi behandlades mycket väl. Extra plommon skulle ha höjt vårt betyg till 5 stjärnor!

Trots att vara upptagen fick vi ett bord för 5 inom några ögonblick efter ankomsten av en härlig medlem av personalen. Personalen var härlig, Servicen var snabb och maten kom snabbt. Utsökt mat. Andra fantastisk upplevelse här.

Vi har kommit till denna restaurang i minst 8 år och IT aldrig misslyckas med att imponera. Vi hade ett bra bord vid middagen med utsikt över slottet - lyste upp fint för tatueringen. Jess, vår server var fantastisk - mycket smiley, en stor känsla för humor och levererade härlig mat och viner med en blomstrande. Hon var bättre än lysande! Tyvärr firade jag min 64-årsdag & min fina dotter köpte mig ett pannband och båge för att få mig att känna mig speciell på min födelsedag! Vi var tvungna att flytta efter ca 15 minuter eftersom vi blev brända av den starka solen: detta var det enda bordet i solen. Personalen var riktigt bra om det. Var vi jobbiga? Nej, vi såg två andra par bli placerade vid det bordet efter oss och som bad om att bli flyttade . Jag beställde musslorna, såsen var så intetsägande och smaklös att jag inte kunde äta det det var hemskt, nästa service, ja det fanns ingen service vi avslutade vår måltid och tallrikarna satt fortfarande framför oss en halvtimme senare, 2 servitriser för att servera 20 + bord de bokstavligen sprang runt som huvudlösa kycklingar, vi frågade inte om vår måltid var ok vi erbjöds inte dessert vi erbjöds inte en annan drink men de hade fräckheten att sätta en serviceavgift på räkningen 75 £ för 2 huvudrätter och 1 drink vardera utan någon kundservice alls. När vi skulle gå frågade någon om allt var okej och vände sedan ryggen och gick därifrån innan vi ens hade chansen att svara. Skulle inte rekommendera denna restaurang till någon och vi kommer aldrig att gå tillbaka

Detta är vår favorit gå till restaurang i Edinburgh! Maten är alltid så god (och lunchmenyn är så rimlig! ) , restaurangmiljön är härlig med utsikt över slottet och servrarna är alltid så vänliga. Idag var vi en grupp på 8 och alla älskade sin måltid. Vi kommer definitivt tillbaka - tack!

Vi har varit här för en mors dag middag, genomsnittlig mat och för dyrt, service fruktansvärt, restaurangen var mer än halvtom och vi hade en lång väntan på måltiden att serveras, servitörer kommer inte ens bry sig om att komma tillbaka och se om allt var OK. Agustín var servitören som tog vår beställning med ett mycket bra sätt och mycket artig, de höll honom upptagen sopa golvet snarare än att vara med custumer. När jag ber föreståndaren om att Agustin ska betala fick jag veta att han var i en annan avdelning, jag tror att de flesta restauranger i Edinburgh en avdelning är storleken på denna restaurang. I mer än 15 år var detta min favoritplats i Edinburgh, verkligen inte kommer tillbaka. Ledsen mycket besviken, kommer inte att rekommenderas.

Första gången på denna restaurang, besökte efter rekommendationer. Maten och servicen var bra och mycket effektiv service för personalen. Vi hade pannan stekt coley och detta var utsökt. Brödet serverades varmt och även mycket gott. En stor helhetsupplevelse och rekommenderar lunch tid menyn.
