Visited a few times and best of the best springs to mind
if you are looking for a fish and chips, you would be remiss to look anywhere else, and we dont say that lightly

Nice family owned business with Food cooked freshly and polite staff. 
Fish cooked crunchy on the outside and perfectly tender and flakey on the inside. 
Chicken is to die for with the size of chicken in this shop not being present anywhere else, I mean it's very big chicken .

If you are looking for a CHEAP picnic in the park with well cooked, albeit greasy food, try George's. They have everything. From fish & chips to curry egg rolls. Which is like a chicken curry and a veggie spring roll marriage. A surprisingly good idea!  They have fried chicken, battered sausage and chips. Lots of chips.  They offer to make your chips (fries) salt and vinegar. Say yes. Everything is on the side and extra. Ketchup. Tartar sauce. Mustard. Vinegar. 

The best part is their donner kebab (which is similar to gyro meat). It's so cheap. Served with salad and chips and a delicious hot sauce. But no rice. That was odd for me. But if we ever stay in Maida Vale again, we will for sure be back for a meal or two!

I recently just moved to the area and I'm a lover of a good old authentic fish and chip shop and George's Fish bar on Shirland road did not disappoint. The chips are always cooked fresh and to perfection and the sausages are 10/10. Battered and saveloy.  This fish is always great and I cannot fault the place. I highly recommend!!

STAY AWAY!!!   
Hadn't been to George's for a while. Fancied fish & chips last Friday and so gave them a ring to fry some plaice for me, ready for pick-up in ten minutes (have always done this as, previously, plaice has always been cooked to order. "OK" I was told - without my name/address being taken, which I found odd. 

On arrival I found out why: the place was under different ownership. I was served a medium-sized piece of plaice (I'd asked for large) which looked rather sad, as if it had been sitting there for quite sometime - this being plonked on top of some rather unappetising-looking chips before being drenched in cheap salt & vinegar and wrapped without decorum.

On serving it up at home the meal was appallingly distasteful: overcooked, greasy-battered plaice along with greasy, abused-looking chips. The whole was inedible, the experience rather vulgar.

I paid £15 for this mush. For similar I could have visited my local for their beer-battered haddock & chips with sides, all washed down with a pint of beer.

We love George! Visiting from the states and thankfully Yelp directed us to George's Fish Bar. We bought the cod and rock fish with a side of large chips. We loved both, but especially the rock fish! 

All the workers were fun to track with. 

We sat outside at one of the two tables. 

A perfect place for a casual first meal here in London.

Clean, efficient outlet, run by friendly staff. This is meant for takeaway. 
Unfortunately, only very limited selection available at 6pm.
The fish was good, fish cakes meh and limp, the chips limp and limp. 
Definitely had better, although I doubt I ever got more..!

Cod & chips with coke = £7.10 for almost double portion snack. Not a double portion meal but if you have tiny stomach unlike mine, you could share with someone as well.

Great food - very cheap. Staff are good fun and always up for a chat. The chicken is lovely - highly recommend.
