I recently celebrated a birthday dinner at Akira, and it was an unforgettable experience. The food was exceptional, beautifully crafted, and bursting with flavor. One of the best Sushi places in London. We tripped to one of the exhibitions at Japan House downstairs first; and then had dinner here. Had some really tasty Edamame; which was seasoned very nicely with salt. Every sushi option we went for was on point and Wagyu beef also a highlight. Nice intimate spot if needed too; great date night!

The food was okay. The wagyu beef was nice and cooked well. We didn’t order much because we weren’t very hungry. Nevertheless, the sushi wasn’t made with the best rice. The sushi that appears red with the peach sauce drizzled all over was my favourite. The service was fair but we didn’t order much have to wait a while for the waiter to come back and take our order - for which the restaurant was not that busy for a week day.

Akira is at the top of a Japanese museum and stationery shop. The decor is classic wood and the music was subtle. I found the atmosphere to be simple in a good way - clean and understated. There's an open kitchen for those who like to watch the cooking process.

As far as food goes, I was incredibly impressed by the salmon roe in a martini glass. The presentation was unique and innovative while highlighting the salmon roe beautifully. I feel the selection of sushi wasn't that wide; there were only a few kinds of sushi available, although there was a nice selection of donburi and warm dishes, so just keep that in mind.

Where things started to go wrong was with my dining partner's salmon sashimi. One of the pieces had a scale on it, but we were given two replacement pieces, so all's well that ends well, I suppose. The octopus sashimi was very good, so there's that.

The desserts were good - I had mango and raspberry mochi, which were very tasty. My dining partner had the Akira pudding, which he greatly enjoyed.

I think if it hadn't been for the scale on the salmon sashimi, my rating would have been much higher, since the service was incredible. Everything was quick to come out and our water was always topped up without needing to ask. When we got some sauce on the table, the waitress cleaned it up immediately, which was just above and beyond.

Overall, I'm a bit conflicted on if I'd come here again. I think the waitresses were amazing and the atmosphere was really nice, but the food selection and fish scale weren't great.

I was impressed by the freshness and the execution of most dishes. Prices seemed to be sensible and I would definitely come here again. The tuna was by far my favourite in this restaurant.
