I booked afternoon tea well in advance for a special occasion.  We waited over an hour for them to bring any food (with no explanation, although they did give a complimentary glass of sparkling wine when I asked what was taking so long) and we also had to ask to be brought some tea.  The food looked pretty sloppily assembled, e.g. some of the decorations had flopped over or the creme pat was not properly set.  The sandwiches also were not particularly nicely presented, although they tasted fine.  The scones were OK.  One guest who was vegetarian got a completely different set of cakes (which all looked really similar to each other and quite dull).  There was only one other table taken when we were there, so it's not as if they were busy.  Clearly something had gone wrong, maybe they were short-staffed, but it was a special occasion so I would have rather just had a nice and good quality tea!  Positive points were that the decor was quite nice, the background music was excellent and the staff were friendly.  Just thought I would write a review to warn others!

UPDATE: the hotel contacted me to offer 50% refund and also offered a complimentary tea for our group so they seem keen to remedy the situation.

It’s a nice boutique 4 stars hotel.
➕location 10/10, cleanliness 10/10, design and atmosphere 10/10. Rooms are very very small but okay for London.
➖ they really have to work hard for the service!
No welcoming greeting, no welcoming drink ! At least a cup of water after a very long trip! Especially that they saw we have a baby and my wife is breastfeeding! Nothing!
No spa, no sauna services (don’t really know how is it a 5*).

Bottom line: was okay we enjoyed it. Will I cone back? Definitely not ❌, do I recommend? Not really ❌ ! For the same price I stayed in a better 4 ⭐️ hotels in london.

We had a lovely afternoon tea at the Guardsman. The location was ideal since we walked straight there from the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. All the teas and treats were fantastic, but it was the impeccable service from Vinay that truly made this experience exceptional. Thank you, Vinay, for making my children feel like absolute gold and for giving my husband and myself a relaxing afternoon. We highly recommend!

Wonderful hotel! I would highly recommend staying here for a trip to London. It’s slightly removed from the very busy areas of the city, and coming back to a quiet, less chaotic location was great after long days of sight seeing. Getting to main sights was easy via foot, buses, or the tube, and there’s plenty of places to eat close by and a wonderful restaurant in the hotel. My Airbnb canceled two hours before check in and I was lucky enough to make a last minute reservation here. The accommodations were 5 star, and the staff were very kind and helpful and even helped with contacting a local gym to work out at. I can’t recommend The Guardsman enough. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Disappointing Experience, Not a True 5-Star Hotel

After staying at top-tier London hotels like the Rosewood London and Montcalm East, I found The Guardsman fell short of 5-star standards. The hotel misses several critical elements expected from a luxury establishment.

The rooms are notably small and were not properly turned over - there were clear traces of dirt, suggesting the room hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned after the previous guest. Despite the website advertising nightly turndown service, this wasn’t provided. In fact, you have to request room cleaning before 4 p.m., which is inconvenient and surprising for a hotel of this supposed caliber.

Service was inconsistent - there was no reliable help with luggage, and at times, no staff was present at the front desk. The most disappointing part of my stay was dealing with a strong sewer smell emanating from the shower on our last night. The hotel’s response? Only a 15% credit for the inconvenience.

Overall, The Guardsman lacks the refined service, attention to detail, and guest experience that truly define a 5-star property. I would not stay here again.
