I spent two marvellous days in this museum, completely enthralled at the genius of Sir John Soane's spacial arrangement of his collection.

The museum is definitely overcrowded with things so if you can go on a weekday your experience will be far more relaxed. Also depending on the lighting of the day you will get a completely different experience.

Make sure you stick around for the opening of the painting room at 4.00 if you can!

If you go early and get your name on the list on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and again on Thursdays and Saturdays there are special tours within the museum.

What an astounding place! Absolutely crammed with beautiful and amazing things that you can get up close to. I feel embarrassed that we had only recently found this incredible space.
Im going to go out on a limb and say it contains probably the most impressive dog crypt you are likely to see.
We all enjoyed this and it immediately become my daughter’s favourite museum.
This is the place I’m most likely to recommend to visitors popping into London from here on in. Followed closely by the Charles Dickens museum which is very close by.

I won’t say too much about this museum, except that it has a very special charm—visiting feels like stepping into an exceptional, extraordinary home, as if you’re exploring a friend’s residence. Walking through its halls and floors, each room reveals itself, meticulously chosen and filled with beautiful objects selected with care and love by the owner. Entry is free, although visitors are welcome to make a small donation if they wish. The visit concludes with a gift shop, where it’s hard to resist taking home a souvenir to remember the authenticity of this wonderful experience.

A cozy gem filled to the gills with western art and artifacts that is comparable in breadth, if not in quantity, to the British Museum. Sir Soane is the archetype  of a kind and romantic intellectual and insatiable collector.

As well as designing the house itself, the architect also designed the interior, which is worth a tour on its own. With its many domes, convex mirrors and clever use of light and structural elements, it evokes Monticello.

It used to be a hidden gem but now the word is increasingly out. Still free and no lines-grab it while it’s hot!

Firstly although I only rated this 3* it should be noted that this is a free exhibition, and so is worth a visit if you're budget cannot stretch too far.

First the downsides, because there is limited space inside there can be quite a wait.  Larger bags need to be left in the cloakroom but once again this is free.

I found the house dark and slightly claustrophobic as there are many small areas to explore.

While the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful, there is very little or no information on the exhibits . This is apparently because the house was left in trust and had to remain as it was left.

Although there is a guide book (£3 at time of review) it is very basic.

If there is a guide tour i would recommend this to get the most out of your visit.

On a positive note the staff were very help and explained a lot. I was not aware of Soanes before this so found the story of his family and issues with his sons quite interesting, although the son George appears to be a 'bit of trouble ' im not sure hos father wasnt much better.

So don't rush to go see it but if you are in the area with time on your hands you could do worse than to check it out.
