We booking in for the night of our wedding anniversary having been a number of times for lunch curious to see the house and grounds. We were shown round the lounges and then taken to our lovely room. The room/bed was spacious and very comfortable with everything you could need. The meal was as per usual superb and the service friendly and attentive. But the big plus is that this doesn't feel like a hotel, it feels like you are a welcome guests in a friends beautiful country house. No busy bar staff just a cosy snug with a honesty bar and the chance to sit and truly relax in wonderful countryside. Loved our stay

We had dinner only, booked for 7 pm. The welcome was great, the service was ace. The food was lovely (except one of the desserts was not to our personal liking). The restaurant has an open plan kitchen style and it’s nicely decorated. Our table was situated towards the door/window and unfortunately there was a constant cold draft blowing in on us, despite the electric heater, it took the edge off of the experience.
The venue looks amazing and would definitely visit in the day time.
We would return to try again.

We had a wonderful stay at Updown Farmhouse on Sunday evening. We had Sunday lunch in the restaurant which was beyond amazing, totally recommend the roast lamb👌🏻there was also a magician called Josh who came round whilst we were eating, he was absolutely fantastic, so much so we took his card in case have an event, he would be a welcome addition to any function.  We stayed in the farmhouse, room 3, which was beautiful, comfy bed and so spacious. Fabulous breakfast the next morning, a true  5⭐️ stay for us. Highly recommend to anyone. Thank you for making us so very welcome.

We stayed overnight at Updown on a Sunday, booking about six weeks in advance. We had been really looking forward to their Sunday roast set menu, but about two weeks before our stay, we were informed they’d be starting a guest chef season featuring a four-course set menu with optional wine pairing. When I asked about the Sunday roast or any other options, unfortunately, there weren’t any. With no choice, we went for the guest chef menu, which was good, but it was a shame there were no alternatives, and it ended up being pricier than we expected for lunch. A fussier guest might have struggled, especially given how remote the estate is.

Another downside was that after lunch service, which ends around 4 pm, there were no evening dining options on a Sunday. Room service only offered a cheese board and a salad, so we found ourselves quite hungry by the evening. Having had drinks earlier, we couldn’t easily venture out to eat elsewhere, which wasn’t ideal.

That said, the farmhouse itself is stunning, the rooms are extremely comfortable, and the staff were fantastic. A bit more transparency about dining options at the time of booking would’ve been helpful, but overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Wow - what a treat!

We stayed for the weekend at the gatehouse and enjoyed dinner on saturday night and a roast on Sunday. The food was great and the rooms / main house are beautiful and comfortable spaces.

We were so well looked after by all the staff, in particular by Lia and the restaurant staff. We were visiting with our 1-year old who was made to feel very welcome.

I would really recommend Updown for a getaway weekend - great for relaxing and recharging in the countryside, and enjoying some great food and cocktails.

Thanks for having us - we will be back!
