Nestled in the vibrant heart of Notting Hill, Bullgogi offers an authentic Korean BBQ experience that combines rich flavors, modern decor, and a lively atmosphere. This restaurant is a haven for food enthusiasts eager to indulge in traditional Korean dishes with a contemporary twist. Not bad. More of a 3.5 but it's perfectly serviceable Korean BBQ and would compete nicely against decent mom and pop BBQ places in Los Angeles but certainly isn't up there with anything from the mother country or A tiers in the states.

The space is actually pretty nice, particularly if you're sitting in the back. Servers are helpful and attentive, aided in part by that great but rarely exported technology from Korea: the call-for-service button. One could argue that the mere existence of such a device signals some degree of legitimacy to the establishment. You do have to cook your own here but that's to be expected from the usual establishments. 

Food is pretty good. We opted for all pork this go around and all of it was enjoyable. The basic pork belly faired the worst although using sesame  and especially their ssamjang made everything balance out. Bugolgi was next and here it had a very interesting taste that we think had cinnamon added to the usually pear-based sauce; it neither detracted or added to the taste so it just became a topic of conversation really. Spicy pork was last and quite good, requiring no additional help from the sauces.

The soju selection here is pretty weak so be prepared for the most standard Jinro (they didn't even have Fresh here) or get some other drinks.

TLDR: grill your own food, staff is attentive, great food

Food: 5/5, expected Bulgogi and Spicy Chicken. We got what we want. Marination seemed spot on in terms of flavor. Bulgogi cut did not have a lot of fat, which is good. You do have to grill it yourself if you're not used to it. Remember, chicken coooks longer, so do that last or early on. We got the cocktail sprits and it was pretty good. I recommend the berry over the lemonade. Doesn't hit you hard tho if you're looking for something with more alcohol. 

Ambience: (5/5), around dinner time, it started pouring in people. Otherwise, we had enough room for two, wasn't crowded, very clean 

Customer service: (5/5). No complaints.

I love Korean food and have been slowly making my way around trying all the Korean restaurants in London, and I quite liked this restaurant. The menu has a lot of BBQ stuff and hot plats on the tables, although they also have the usual stuff like Jijgae, bibimbap and a large variety of starters and sides. I loved the soybean jijgae with tofu, it tasted really authentic and was pretty filling. The kimchi here is great, and the portions are perfect. They also have kimchi and seafood pancakes! The service was efficient and staff were friendly, prices were cheap for London: £10-11 for a main, £3-8 for starters and sides. The drinks menu is also pretty extensive with Korean drinks and teas as well, I loved the Korean barley tea. Booking was easy with Opentable, they do charge service charge and also accept card. Overall tasty authentic Korean food at a decent price.

Notting Hill Gate is a weird area ... surrounded by the famous streets of colourful cottages and pillared mansions, tucked-away quirky pubs and just at the top of Portobello Road market, the area's main high street is a bit of a mess.

We still have our wonderful Gate Cinema and two independent theatres but the surrounding area has never really taken off. Every now and again a little gem appears and Bullgogi could be the latest.

It's not quite there yet mind. The branding is a bit confusing, I would have completely dismissed this as an Argentinian steak house if friends hadn't dragged me in - those expecting massive cuts of beef would probably be similarly confused as Bullgogi is the latest restaurant jumping onto the tapas-sized craze.

Once inside, you find yourself in a beautiful modern square - almost zen if it wasn't for the terrible music pumped around the otherwise serene surroundings.

The food itself was delicious, as a group of four we got to taste loads of different flavours. KFC chicken and spicy pork were favourites. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of finger food - probably because I never learnt to eat without cutlery and am rubbish at it - I hate getting my hands all sticky and greasy! One tiny paper towel (not of the charming old-fashioned heated terry cotton type, but the factory-wrapped variety) just doesn't cut it. 

The manager was super friendly and I really do wish them luck, and hopefully Bullgogi is still here the next time I pass.

Aside from a slightly misleading sign, stentorian music and a nothing-you-can-do-about-it  finger food nature of the appetisers,  I'm not sure why Meike B gave Bullgogi only 3-stars. She raves about the 'delicious' food, 'super friendly' manager, and 'beautiful, modern' and 'zen' decor, suggesting that it could be the latest little gem on Notting Hill Gate.

Well Meike, those are bullshit reasons to give a good restaurant 3 stars, which really isn't "a-ok", especially as a 1st review.  When was the last time a 3-star review tempted you to try a new restaurant?

There is no decent Korean in almost all of London, let alone outside of Soho / New Malden, so this place deserves a few start just for existing.  The dolsot bibimbap is about as good as every other dolsot bibimbap, which is a good thing.  The BBQ beef ribs are tasty, as is the KFC and some other crap I've eaten there.  Service is very good, although their roaring Deliveroo trade can be irritating, with all those masked men coming and going.

Probably a 4-star in practice, but as an averaging exercise, I'd say 5-stars.

Situated in the heart of Notting Hill, this Korean BBQ place hits the spot. The bullgogi bao (spicy) was soft and the meat was tender. The KFC chicken was crispy and the dressing was creamy. We ordered the premium platter which was slightly overpriced but the seafood was fresh and the meat was marbled. The staff were friendly, helpful and good at advising how to use the BBQ. Definitely would recommend this place to our friends if in the area.
