Such a neat and eclectic decor they got going on here! Service is top notch and OMG their happy hour is ridiculously amazing! 2 for 10, uh yes please! The June Bug is so perfectly sweet, it's my absolute must order! And their halloumi burger is heaven.

I was organising a birthday dinner here and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. It was a monday so I didn't expect the place to be busy. Even so they were readily available to host a large group and for me to drop off a cake behind the bar to be brought out for dessert.

Decor is quite cool. There is a lot of space here, but on a monday, it's pretty much deserted and service is restricted to the ground floor where you have quite a bit of seating in a narrow layout ending with the bar. 

Food and drink were amazing. The portion of nachos was the biggest I've seen and amazing with both avocado AND chorizo. I'd ordered what was essentially a bunless chicken burger and didn't expect the garnishes, including aubergine and drips of pesto. It was fantastic.

The cocktails were immense as well. Not many places give the OPTION of egg whites in drinks, but I salute those that do.  They also had a good amount of spirit and were mixed extremely well. Also Happy Hour, 2 cocktails for £10 went down a treat! Had one of the best amaretto sours ever mixed here.

And did I mention there was one person running the whole ground floor area the whole night, with maybe 2-3 more assisting in the kitchen. I was impressed, particularly as they mentioned they were still in training!

In all, this place doesn't get the attention it's due. Plus if it did, staffing would probably be unable to cope. But as long as it continues to be excellent hosts, and continue supplying the excellent cocktails and food, I'll be back many a time.

Came to this place for happy hour drinks, must say they have the worst bar tenders with the least enthusiasm about the drinks. LEAST! And cant shake/mix for christ sake! I mean c'mon, it's a Thursday evening and we all just want to get drunk. (not here of course). It'd be nice for an occasional smile or something. Not to mention their drinks are a let down, to a degree where i think they actually s u c k. 

Potential vibe but music is lacking! seem to be like a bar for those farringdon workies in suits and boring dresses. sors, not my type!

I came here for a friend's birthday drinks on Saturday. Bouncer was checking everyone's ID, even people who clearly look old enough. I'm 28 with visible tattoos and he still took a good long look at my passport, seems excessive to me. 

Poster outside in smoking area by entrance states 2 for £10 cocktails til 10pm on Friday and Saturday - not the case, ordered two Daiquiris at 8.15pm to be told the offer finished at 8pm. Bummer. Please take the misleading poster down guys!

The decor and setting is classy and upmarket, shame the music and ambience was pretty dull. Service was fine, places that do cocktails can be slow - this one was ok but it was not busy.

We took advantage of their happy hour here (4-7pm) on a Friday night. We were sat upstairs because we were having food too but downstairs I think there is more of a party atmosphere and they have a DJ too.

The selection of happy hour cocktails was really good and they were 2 for £10. 

Their food menu is a bit more extensive than your usual pub/bar, and tasted good. It wasn't a mind-blowing experience but it was perfect for a catch up with my best friend (we were more interested in the cocktails and chatting than the food really!)

A new discovery with a great happy hour, greater bar staff and greatest cocktails! I'm almost loathe to overly gush about it on here because it seems to be the one decent place in midtown that isn't rammed at all hours of the day, all days of the week (except weekends of course duh!).
I would recommend getting here early-ish on a weekday and then back out again before the crowds of drunken office peeps descend and you are forced to witness a man in a suit drunkenly come on to his colleague and feel torn between the cynically (or City-cally - see what I did there?!) wanting to warn her that she will almost certainly regret it the next day and the romantic you hoping that it actually could be ever after and you may be invited to their wedding given you've borne witness to the inception of their relationship..!

This review is for the food, at lunchtime. Probably should've given it 4 stars but there was just something I wasn't sure about. I'm being picky no doubt, but that's the point right?

Anyway...my burger run continues and i'll say it was a good burger. Crispy bacon, melted cheese, nice bun...the patty was substantial, quality meat I reckon. My gripe would be £3 for a small portion of fries, on top of £8 for the burger. £2 for a coke always hurts me, and the fact that in the UK if I wanted another one it would cost me another £2. refills baby, refills. its cheap syrup sh*t anyway. 

the venue clearly is a night spot, looking at the decor. but it was comfortable. 

service was, as-above, A-OK. Not great but not bad at all. Non-descript.

Probably wouldn't go back but glad I tried it.

Went the last day of the launch party..! It was lovely. I was late for my table but the staff was so nice they made space for me and my friends. Food was delicious and the cocktail were fabulous. Music was banging. A great night out. Recommend Berry mojIto.

The decor downstairs is pretty cool, and I guess the location works if you're looking for somewhere reasonably-priced to drink before heading a few doors up to Fabric. But there wasn't much else about my night at Grand Union that I can say.

The vodka options were 'so cheap it tastes like wood' or Grey Goose. Which is less than ideal, but there was also no consistency between pours with one drink tasting like lime cordial - which I didn't ask for - and one like vodka on the rocks. For the benefit of the audience, I was trying to order a single vodka soda with fresh lime.

The music wasn't great and if we weren't there with so many people, it would've been completely dead. So no atmosphere either.

I've been to other Grand Unions and liked them, but the Farringdon venue just kind of bummed me out.

I've been to the Grand Union in Farringdon and the one in Brixton and I have to say, I think the one in Brixton is nicer mainly because of its awesome outdoor area.

Having said that, I had a great night out here with a good balance of the upstairs being a more civilised, classy bar and downstairs being an area of trashier good fun with good music and dancing so you've got the best of both worlds! 

p.s. For those who like Fabric, it's a good pre-drinks place since it's just round the corner, for those like me who think Fabric is overrated, stick to Grand Union, it has a way better atmosphere!
